On Friday, 14th November, 2025, ten students represented St Louis de Montfort’s at the Fighting Extinction Showcase in the Melbourne Zoo. Schools from all over Victoria displayed their efforts in fighting the extinction of a particular animal, through posters, dioramas, instructions, ideas, models and giveaways.

We also spent time exploring the zoo and especially focusing on the ways in which we could help vulnerable and endangered animals. Ideas of trying to help orangutans keep their habitats by buying products that have no or at least sustainable palm oil in them.
Students could scan products to see whether they contained palm oil.
Also following the campaign of Blowing Bubbles Not Balloons to help all birds, seals, dolphins and other sea creatures and using fewer single-use plastics.
Our students had a wonderful day, highlighting their favourite parts, including looking at a water pH testing station and recycled plastic ideas, seeing lemurs, orangutans, meerkats, the baby giraffe, the platypus, stingrays, penguins, and the snow leopard.
