Year 3/4 News

Learning Centre Two

What a fun and exciting couple of weeks it has been in LC2! Last week’s school disco was a fantastic success — it was wonderful to see so many students dancing, laughing, and enjoying the night with their friends. A big thank you to all the parents and families who came along to support the event and help make it such a memorable evening.

Today we celebrated with our much-anticipated Colour Run! The students had an amazing time running, laughing, and getting covered in colour. It was a joyful way to finish the week and celebrate being active together as a school community.

Last week we had a whole school 'Lock Down' drill. We would like to congratulate all our Year 3/4 students, they were amazing stopping, listening to & following instructions. The centre was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Religion

Year 3

This term, students have been learning about The Beatitudes — Jesus’ teachings that guide us in living happy and holy lives. Through these lessons, students are discovering how the Beatitudes help us to live close to God and show love and kindness to others in our daily lives. We have focused on the first two Beatitudes: “Blessed are the poor in spirit” and “Blessed are those who mourn.” Students explored what these teachings mean and discussed practical ways they can live them out at school and at home by trusting in God and showing care and compassion for others.

Students also learned about Mary as the first disciple. They reflected on how Mary listened to God and said “yes” with faith and love. Inspired by her example, students have been encouraged to think about how they too can say “yes” to God in their own lives through their words and actions.

All the year 4s have been reading Wild Robot. It has been an interesting story so far, it has been fun to read. The book is about a robot that got stranded on an island from a storm so the robot explores the island. Her name is Roz and she had a pretty big journey. Roz has met lots of new animals and she just explored. She meets other animals and creatures on the way and runs into an accident. Roz was climbing a rocky mountain in a storm to get to the top but she slipped in a nest and accidentally killed  a little goslings parents. She saved the egg that the gosling was in. We have enjoyed the book and we have been writing sentences and doing activities on the Wild Robot. On our slides we have been doing vocab words and sentence level writing pertaining to the Wild Robot.

Year 4:

The past two weeks  the students have been learning about graphs, data and  probability. When the students were learning about data  they asked their classmates a question such as  'what’s your favourite food' or 'what’s your favourite video game.' Once we had gathered the data  we plotted it on a graph and analysed the results. The students are currently learning about probability by flipping a coin and guessing if its heads or tails and recording it in there book.

Inquiry

In Science, students have been learning about living things and how they grow and change. They have created informative slideshows to show their understanding of how different living things survive and adapt to their environments.

We have been learning about different types of animals such as Mammals,Birds,Reptiles,Fish and Amphibians. We researched their life span, diet, scientific name, habitat, average size, weight, where they are found in the world and there physical characteristics .

As we move forward, students will be exploring Australian animals, learning to sort and classify them into groups, and representing the life cycles of their chosen animals. This will help them understand the unique features and stages of life of the amazing creatures that call Australia home.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing this term, students have been learning about resilience and the importance of having a growth mindset. They explored how our thoughts and attitudes can influence our learning and confidence, and how believing in ourselves helps us to keep trying, even when things are challenging.

Through discussions and activities such as a T-chart comparing fixed and growth mindsets and a word scramble challenge, students reflected on how mistakes help us learn and grow. They are developing an understanding that with effort, determination, and self-belief, they can tackle any challenge and continue to improve.

It's that time of year again when all students must wear a hat when outside. It is strongly suggested that the hat be a bucket style as this gives the best protection. School hats are available from the uniform shop. Please make sure your child's hat has their name on it. Students who do not have a hat will be asked to stay in the shade as we do have...

NO HAT, NO PLAY
