Principal News

Well, this week has certainly flown by and that probably has something to do with students enjoying a 4-day weekend !
Bushfire preparedness
This week we updated our bushfire preparedness information for families. Our school is on the Bushfire At Risk Register (BARR). We are a Category 3 school which means
our school will close on a day forecasted as Catastrophic fire danger rating in Central fire district.
Closure of the school due to a Catastrophic fire danger rating will be enacted when the Bureau of Meteorology forecast and related public safety messaging are confirmed. Due to uncertainties in the forecast, the timing of this confirmation may vary. Information regarding potential or confirmed Catastrophic fire danger days will be communicated to you by a Compass email and push notification.
It is also important to be aware that:
No one will be on site on days where the school is closed due to a forecast Catastrophic day.
Out-of-school-hours care will also be cancelled on these days.
All bus routes that travel through the Catastrophic area will be cancelled.
School camps will be cancelled if a Catastrophic fire danger rating day is forecast for fire weather district in which the camp is located, or if the travel involves passing through areas that have Catastrophic fire danger.
As part of preparing our school for the fire season, we have updated and completed our Emergency Management Plan and prioritised any maintenance works that may assist in preparing for the threat of fire and cleared our facility’s grounds and gutters. Ongoing grounds maintenance includes removal of leaf litter and dry plant material.
We will shortly have works commencing on our new Shelter In Place Building (SIP) with the BER receiving additional protection. This is expected to occur prior to the summer holidays. We will still use our current SIP building until the works are completed.

Prep Transition 2026
On Wednesday we held our second transition session for our 2026 Prep students. Students participated in a ‘What do we bring to School’ literacy activity, enjoyed outdoor play which was followed by Performing arts and Library. With many students stating that they didn’t want to go home when they we reunited with their family, we are all in agreement that the session was a huge success again. We look forward to our third session on Thursday of Week 7.
Prep 2026 Information Afternoon
Next Monday we have our Prep 2026 information afternoon commencing at 3:45pm in the staffroom. We look forward to seeing our 2026 Prep families there.
New mural in 5/ 6 area
Over the weekend our mural in the 5/ 6 area started to take shape. It is looking stunning and is ready for students to add pops of colour. If you haven’t passed by the area yet, it is well worth a look. Here are some progress shots. We are very grateful to or artists who have designed this and to the generosity of Eltham Rotary for the funds to complete this beautiful piece.
