Recently in Mathematics, our Year 4 students have explored a wide range of concepts that have strengthened their number skills and mathematical thinking. They have been introduced to BODMAS and have used this rule to solve multi-step equations, developing a stronger understanding of how order of operations affects an answer. Students have also taken their first steps into algebra, learning to recognise and represent unknown values using symbols and applying this knowledge to balance beam equations, where they practised keeping both sides equal. They also explored simple flow charts to represent mathematical processes, learning how algorithms can help them follow steps in a sequence and organise their thinking visually.

In Space, students investigated lines of symmetry, rotational symmetry on a cartesian plane and tessellations by identifying repeating patterns, rotating shapes, and creating their own symmetrical designs.

Across all areas, students have been encouraged to use resilience when facing new and challenging ideas. They have worked collaboratively, stretched their problem-solving skills, and persisted through tricky tasks, showing growing confidence and a positive mindset towards their maths learning.
