Performing Arts in

          Term 4

Foundation:

In Term 4, our Foundation students have been exploring music and dance through their voices, body percussion, ukuleles, and movement. They created short dances to express emotions and simple ideas such as the weather. Students practiced ukulele to correctly play C chord and F chord, while playing in time with the class. Through rehearsals and performances, students have continued to show care and respect while taking turns to perform and watch others.

Years 1–2:

In Years 1–2, students continued developing their musical and dance skills, using their bodies and facial expressions to tell stories. They listened to songs from different cultures and discussed their purposes. They sang, played the ukulele, and experimented with pitch, volume, and tempo. They also learned and practiced safe dance techniques while rehearsing and sharing their creative work with one another.

Years 3–4:

Students in Years 3 and 4 further explored and experimented with the elements of dance, using both improvisation and structured movement to communicate ideas and perspectives. Students practiced ukulele, and explored other instruments to create short songs. They examined how musical elements are used in advertising to create interest and how different sounds can change mood and evoke emotion.

Years 5–6:

In Years 5 and 6, students choreographed dance sequences using the elements of dance and choreographic devices to express ideas and emotions. They worked collaboratively and shared their creations with peers. They also developed physical coordination while playing instruments and dancing. In music, they explored where and why music is created across different cultures and throughout history. Finally, they investigated how music is used in advertising, producing their own catchy brand jingles using a variety of instruments.
