Unleashing Your Superpower
Each of us carries a superpower. It may not come with a cape or a dramatic theme song, but it is there.
For some, a superpower shows up in obvious ways: shooting goals on the netball or basketball court, landing an ace on the tennis court, mastering a chessboard, or holding an entire script effortlessly in mind as opening night approaches. Others hear a song once and can sit down at an instrument and instantly play it back. These gifts are real, they are worth celebrating, and they remind us that talent wears many faces.
Adults aren’t excluded from the superpower gift, either. We know the joy of those small, almost magical abilities — like finding the elusive rockstar car park and holding onto a lifetime’s worth of random facts that can save the team during a trivia game. But the older we get, the more we realise that the most powerful superpowers aren’t flashy. Kindness, generosity, courage, and the willingness to step forward rather than step back; these are the superpowers that genuinely hold value and move communities.
When we choose to use these deeper strengths, something shifts. Our environment becomes warmer. Our relationships grow stronger. Our conversations change tone. A single act of kindness can reroute someone’s entire day; a moment of courage can spark someone else’s confidence. The ripple effect is real, and it’s bigger than we ever see at first glance.
Here at Loreto College Marryatville, I believe our collective superpower is community spirit. It’s the energy that fills our gatherings, the support that flows so naturally between students, staff, and families, and the way we rally around one another without hesitation. It’s what makes our College not just a place of learning, but a place of belonging.
So I encourage every student , and every adult, to recognise their superpower and use it purposefully. Let it strengthen you. Let it uplift others. Let it contribute to the kind of world we all want to live in. When we each bring out our gifts, the whole community becomes stronger, brighter, and more hopeful.
That is the real impact of a superpower. And it’s one we can all share.
