Head Lice Notification
Dear Parents/Guardians/Carers,
It has come to my attention that some students in the school may have head lice and I seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair this week 10/11/2025 - 14/11/2025.
Head lice do not transmit infectious diseases – they are transmitted by having head to head contact with someone who has head lice. You may be reassured to know that head lice are commonly found in places other than at Miners Rest Primary School. Head lice are common in school-aged children and are the most adaptable of creatures. They have survived living solely on humans for 10,000 years!!!!
What can you do?
I seek your cooperation in checking your child’s hair and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treating your child’s hair. Please visit www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au and search for “head lice (nits)” for advice on finding, treating and preventing head lice.
The school also has additional information available regarding treatment and controlling head lice. Please don’t hesitate to contact the Administration Office on 5334 6328 to obtain this information.
If head lice or eggs are found on your child’s hair you need to inform:
- the school and advise when the treatment has started
parents or carers of your child’s friends so they too have the opportunity to detect and treat their children if necessary.
When can my child return to school?
Health regulations require that where a child has head lice, that child should not return to school until the day after appropriate treatment has started. Please note, this refers only to those children who have live head lice and does not refer to head lice eggs. More information about exclusion requirements can be found by searching for “school exclusion table” at www.health.vic.gov.au.
Miners Rest Primary School is aware that head lice can be a sensitive issue and is committed to maintaining your confidentiality.
Kind regards,
Kylie Nissen
Principal

Permission Forms Now on Sentral
We’re making things easier and more environmentally friendly! All permission forms for excursions, camps, and incursions will now be available on Sentral—no more paper forms.
With Sentral Activities, you can conveniently give permission and make payments for your child’s activities all in one place.
If needed, paper forms are still available upon request from the office, but we strongly encourage all families to use the Sentral App for a smoother and more efficient experience.
Thank you for your support in making this transition!
Student Absences & Late Arrivals
If your child will be absent, please call the office on 5334 6328 (Press 1 for the Absence Line) or log the absence via the Sentral App.
For upcoming or past absences, please log them via Sentral. If the absence will be extended, such as for a family holiday, kindly also inform your child’s teacher.
All late arrivals must sign in at the office before heading to class. We ask that parents drop their child off at the office and then head off, as students make their own way to class during learning time.
If you need to collect your child early, please be mindful of recess and lunch breaks, as it can be difficult for students to hear PA announcements. Please be patient, as it may take time for your child to be brought to the office.
It is a Department requirement that all absences are reported. Any unexplained absences will prompt an automatic follow-up text at 9:45 AM.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in ensuring consistent student attendance.
