Sequential Explanations: How Entrepreneurs Became Successful

This term, our students have been learning how to write sequential explanations, texts that describe how or why something happens in clear, logical steps. To make our learning meaningful, students chose an entrepreneur to research and explained how that person became successful. Throughout the unit, students focused on using sequencing connectives (first, next, after that, finally), technical vocabulary, and present tense to structure their explanations clearly. They also worked on planning and editing their writing to ensure each step flowed logically.

The final pieces were impressive! Students produced detailed explanations that not only described the path to success but also highlighted traits like resilience, creativity, and determination.

Incursion Coming Up...

In Weeks 9 and 10, students will take part in the Talk Money program run by the Ecstra Foundation. This free program directly supports our current Humanities – Economics and Business unit, where students explore how resources are used to meet needs and wants, and how choices impact individuals, communities, and the environment. It also links perfectly with the Level 5/6 Mathematics curriculum, particularly the focus on Financial Mathematics, where students apply skills such as calculating money amounts, comparing prices, and developing simple budgets to make informed financial decisions in real-world contexts.
