Yellow Group have been extremely busy and curious for the first half of Term 4!

During weeks 2 & 3 several themes were explored and celebrated within our classroom, including Children’s week - “Everyone should know about Children’s Rights “. Recognising the talents, skills, achievements and rights of the children, we shared the song “Boundaries” and the book, “Boss of my body”. Following group learning, we save time to discuss the concepts and ideas from any stories or songs we share. What do we mean when we talk about “child rights” and how do we look after ourselves and our friends respectfully?  We talked about consent and “hands off” play:

“You have to listen” - Charlie

“You gotta be nice” - Imogen

We have also delved into an inquiry on Tadpole life cycles where the children were invited to observe Tadpoles in the classroom tank. Yellow group were inquisitive and asked many questions to be researched on later days:

“Why do Tadpoles lose their legs?” - Xander

“What do Tadpoles eat?” - Mackenzie

“Where do Tadpoles live?” - Jack

The children worked collaboratively to recreate a Tadpole’s life cycle and we brainstormed ideas on how to care for the Tadpole’s natural environment. In week 6 in Yellow group had a very special group time where we shared the story, “Lest we forget” by Kerry Brown which is the powerful story about a boy and his grandfather sharing the parallels of their lives and two very important dates to remember Anzac and Remembrance Day. 'My granddad says there are two types of days: those you want to remember and those you want to forget.' We asked the Yellow group to reflect on what it means to belong, to be kind and what we can do to help our friends, family and country. We wanted to pay our respects to the brave people who came before us, so we created our very own Poppy field to show our appreciation.
