YEAR 1 NEWS

In Year One we are demonstrating how clever we are and how much we have progressed since the start of Term One! 

We have no time to waste! We are busy writing recounts and narratives, as well as solving tricky addition and subtraction equations. We are also deeply immersed in our Religion and our Inquiry Unit called ‘Living Together’. 

In English we are learning to write persuasive texts and have shown a growing understanding of how to convince others using strong arguments. This week’s topic was on healthy eating. Students shared thoughtful ideas about why it’s important to make healthy food choices. With support, they are beginning to use persuasive language and structure their writing clearly. Great effort! 

In Reading, we have been making connections — just like detectives! Our students are thinking about how the stories we read remind them of their own lives, other books, or things happening in the world. It’s like finding clues that help us understand the story better and enjoy it even more!

In Mathematics, we have been exploring addition and subtraction. Students have been learning to solve equations using number lines to help them visualise and understand number patterns. They’re building confidence with number facts and applying strategies to solve problems in fun and engaging ways!

In STEM, we have been learning about living and non-living things, animal habitats, and the unique environments penguins live in. Our students have been exploring what animals need to survive and how we can help protect their habitats. We’ve had great discussions about the ways people can care for wildlife and keep natural spaces safe for animals like penguins.

Chess Club!

In Term 2, Chess Club will be running on a Tuesday afternoon from 3.25-4.30. 

It began on Tuesday the 29th April.

Italian Day

Buongiorno a tutti!

The big event Italian Day is coming up in week 10, Wednesday 25th June.

Our theme this year is ‘Ciao Italia. ‘A day filled with everything we love about Italy. There will be an incursion, food, activities and the children will be able to dress up in the Italian flag colours or anything they love that represents Italy.

Get your costumes ready for a day of fun. Un giorno di festa!

School Uniform

This Term we will transition to our winter uniform. In the first two weeks of Term 2 students can either wear their full Summer uniform or their full Winter uniform. By Monday 5th May it is expected that all students wear their full Winter uniform. 

Please note that school shoes need to be black leather shoes that do not display any branding. If you are purchasing new school shoes over the holidays please make sure that you are purchasing black leather shoes that do not contain any branding.
