Principal’s Report – End of Term 2 Newsletter

A Vibrant Term 2 at Lyndale Secondary College

Term 2 has been a vibrant and rewarding time at Lyndale Secondary College, filled with rich opportunities for challenge, extension, and engagement both in and beyond the classroom. As you’ll read in this newsletter, our school community has been buzzing with activity.

Student Achievements

Our students have excelled across a range of areas. Our Year 7 students have shone in their instrumental music lessons through the iRock program, while students across all year levels have actively participated in the winter sports program, including our Athletics Carnival. They’ve engaged enthusiastically in incursions and excursions, represented their peers through the Student Representative Council, and applied themselves with focus and creativity across all learning areas.

Staff Achievements

I’m pleased to share that our Assistant Principal for Junior School, Luke Wilson, has been appointed Acting Principal at Lang Lang Primary School for the next 12 months. He will begin this exciting new role at the start of Term 3.

This is a wonderful opportunity for Luke to take on a new leadership challenge in a different educational setting. While we will miss his presence at Lyndale, we are incredibly proud of his achievement and know he will make a valuable impact in his new school community.

Please join me in congratulating Luke and wishing him every success in the year ahead.

Staff Initiatives

Our staff continue to demonstrate a deep commitment to improving teaching and learning. This term, a major focus has been on the successful implementation of the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM) 2.0—a key part of our work to enhance educational outcomes for all students.

Strengthening Learning through VTLM 2.0

At Lyndale Secondary College, we are dedicated to providing a high-quality, consistent learning experience for every student. This year, we’ve been actively implementing VTLM 2.0, an evidence-based framework developed by the Department of Education to guide effective teaching practices and improve student outcomes across all schools.

The model supports our goal of building classrooms where:

  • Lessons are clear, purposeful, and structured
  • Students are actively engaged, supported, and challenged
  • Teachers use consistent strategies that foster learning
  • Feedback helps students reflect and grow

Our staff have been working collaboratively to:

  • Plan engaging, focused lessons tailored to student needs
  • Reflect on their teaching through peer observations and feedback
  • Participate in targeted professional development

For your child, this means a more consistent and connected classroom experience—one that fosters confidence, independence, and academic growth. We’re already seeing stronger student engagement and a more unified approach to teaching across the school.

We thank you for your continued support as we embed VTLM 2.0 into the everyday learning experience at Lyndale. Together, we’re building a school where every student feels supported, challenged, and ready to succeed.

Shared Expectations and School Procedures

As we continue through the school year, we’d like to remind families of a few key expectations that help maintain a safe and focused learning environment:

  • Mobile Phones: Phones must be stored in lockers (or at the Sub School Office if lockers are unavailable) from 8:50am to 3:00pm, including recess, lunch, and study periods. For urgent matters, please contact the General Office on 9795 2366. Reminder: Switch Off to Switch On!

  • Laptops: Students should bring their devices to school fully charged each day. Access to charging during school hours is limited.

  • Bags: To reduce congestion and ensure safety, bags must be stored in lockers during the school day. Students may carry a laptop sleeve or case for essential items, but full bags are not permitted in classrooms or corridors.

  • Attendance: Regular attendance is critical for learning success. Missing one day per week adds up to nearly a full term of lost learning over the year. Students should arrive at school by 8:35am, ready for the locker bell at 8:45am, and in class by 8:50am. If your child is absent, please log it via Compass. Students leaving early must sign out at their Sub School Office, and parent/carer permission will be confirmed.

Wishing You a Safe and Happy Break

Term 2 concludes at 3:00pm on Friday 4 July. Term 3 will commence on Tuesday 22 July.

I hope all families enjoy a restful, safe, and refreshing holiday. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in making Lyndale Secondary College a vibrant, inclusive, and successful place of learning.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back for another exciting term ahead.

Warm regards,

Pam Robinson
