Mother's Day at MPS

Mother’s Day is always a special time at Monty — a chance to recognise and celebrate the incredible contributions of mothers, grandmothers, aunts and special others in our students’ lives. We're fortunate to have so many amazing mums not just in our school community, but also on staff, and this day offers us the perfect moment to acknowledge their support, care and unwavering dedication.

We were proud to host a wonderful Mother’s Day assembly at school last week, and it was heartening to see so many family members join us for the occasion. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a warm and meaningful celebration.

A huge thank you also to everyone who contributed to our very successful Mother’s Day Raffle — whether by donating items, wrapping the hampers or purchasing tickets. Thanks to your generosity, we raised just under $4,500, which will directly support our Solar Upgrade Project. What an incredible outcome!

We’d like to give a very special shout out to Caitlin Morrison, who, on behalf of the newly formed Fundraising Committee, hand-made 50 beautifully presented cookies for the mums and special guests who attended our assembly. Not only did they look amazing — the feedback suggests they tasted just as good!

Thank you again to our whole community for making Mother’s Day at Monty so memorable.

Traffic Incident Update

As I am sure you're all aware, last Wednesday a traffic incident occurred on our doorstep. Thankfully, no students or staff were involved or harmed in any way. Emergency services responded promptly and managed the situation efficiently.

We wanted to again thank the community for your calm response to what was quite a serious issue. The safety of our students is, and will always be, our top priority - it's incidents like these that highlight the importance of staying connected and looking out for one another.

I have scheduled a meeting with the Banyule Council Traffic Engineering Team for next week. My aim is to emphasise how different the outcome could have been for our school and to explore what measures the council can implement to help keep our community safe moving forward. I am optimistic that we will reach an agreement on effective actions, but I am also prepared to pursue this matter as far as necessary to ensure the safety of our community.

Pie Drive

As you may have seen recently on Compass, our Pie Drive is currently underway to support our fundraising efforts. Please see the latest post below, and if you haven’t already, we encourage you to place an order for some delicious treats and support our school!

As you may have heard, we’re teaming up with Brent’s Patisserie in Eltham for a winter warmer fundraiser! Stock up on delicious pies, pasties and sweet treats – perfect for easy weeknight dinners or cosy weekend lunches. Even better, Brent’s generously gives around 30% of all sales back to our school.

Every order helps, so feel free to share the link with friends and family too. Orders close Monday, 26th May.

🥧🧾 Place your order here: https://www.trybooking.com/DBQND

Pie Drive Pick-Up Info:

Orders will be delivered to the school on Monday, 2nd June, and will be available for pick-up between 3:00 – 4:00pm from the school.

Celebrating Our Incredible ES Staff

Today is Education Support Staff Appreciation Day – a chance to celebrate the amazing work of our ES team here at Monty. From supporting students in classrooms to keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes, their contribution is truly invaluable and I can't speakly highly enough of the ES team we have.

We marked the occasion with a special morning tea, heartfelt handmade cards from students and plenty of love and appreciation from across the school. A huge thank you to our ES team – your kindness, care and hard work do not go unnoticed. We’re so lucky to have you!

Sibling Enrolments 2026

Enrolments are now officially open for the 2026 school year, I know it seems early but it will be here before we know it! If you have a child who will be starting with us at MPS in 2026, please ensure to fill out and return their enrolment form to us as soon as possible. Enrolment forms can be accessed below, filled out eletroncially and returned to us at montmorency.ps@education.vic.gov.au

A Gentle Reminder – We Know What We're Doing

Monty is lucky to have a passionate and engaged parent and carer community, and we're genuinely thankful for the support we receive every day. This partnership is one of the reasons our school is such a strong and positive place to be.

At the same time, there’s been a small uptick in questioning of staff and school decisions and a tone that suggests we’re not thinking things through or acting in students’ best interests. To be clear: we are. Our staff are professionals. They care deeply, they plan well in advance, they collaborate and they work incredibly hard – often behind the scenes – to make the right calls for students, families and the school as a whole.

Respectful curiosity and feedback are always welcome. But second-guessing or assuming we haven’t thought things through is not helpful – and it's usually way off the mark. We’re proud of what we do and we stand by the decisions made by our team. Please continue to trust that we’ve got it covered – because we do.
