WELLBEING & LEARNING DIVERSITY

This Friday 16 May is "Walk Safely to School Day" and we hope to see as many students as possible walking to school on Friday.

💡 If you live a little further away from school, you could try parking your car a few blocks away or getting of the tram a bit earlier and walking the rest of the way.

By walking to school on this day students will earn house points and stickers!

We're pleased to announce St Joseph's participation in the WOW (Walk or Wheel Once a Week) program, in collaboration with the City of Darebin.

What's WOW?

It's an initiative to promote walking or wheeling to or from school every Thursday. It started on 1 May and runs until 26 June. Each class will track their participation on a WOW wall calendar, competing for the prestigious Golden Boot Award and a class pizza party!

Why WOW?

Along with the Council, we want to encourage healthy habits and reduce traffic congestion around the school. By walking, riding, scooting, or skating to or from school, students improve their health and contribute to road safety awareness.

And don't worry if you live too far from school — catching public transport and walking part of the way, or parking a few blocks from school and walking the rest, still counts towards WOW!

Speaking of road safety, let’s brush up on some important tips:

  • Use ‘Stop, Look, Listen, and Think’ before crossing the road.
  • Slow down near driveways.
  • Always exit the car on the kerb side for safety.

Let’s make every Thursday a WOW day, promoting health, safety, and community spirit!

Thank you, from the Sustainability Team.
