Principal's Report

Bush Dance

I am sure all in attendance at the Bush Dance on 2nd April would have agreed it was a fabulous, fun event for all involved – the students had a ball and all the adults loved watching the children dance! A massive thank you to Tom Pitts, Ilsa Cook, Casey Galinsky and Tyler Trevaskis for all their work, prior to and at the Bush Dance!  $836 was raised through gold coin donations, the money has been sent to the Red Cross Cyclone Alfred Appeal.

Curriculum Day

On the Curriculum Day, all staff engaged in professional learning focused on explicit instruction - exploring what it is, what it is not, and how it can be effectively applied in the classroom. The session emphasised the importance of evidence-based practices and student engagement norms that support student learning.

A key component of the day was the integration of explicit instruction into writing, specifically through the implementation of the Syntax Project. This initiative provided staff with practical strategies for teaching sentence structure and grammar in a systematic, scaffolded way, enhancing students’ writing fluency and accuracy across all year levels.

House Cross Country

The weather last Wednesday for Year 3 to 6 House Cross Country was perfect for running. All our Year 3 to 6 students tried their very best when completing their circuits in beautiful Landcox Park. Thank you to all the teachers and parents involved in setting up and supporting this event. Congratulations and a big thank you to Kirsten Travis for her thorough organisation and enthusiasm for ensuring the House Cross Country was a great success.  Finally, a big congratulations to Milroy House for winning the overall event! Milroy’s first win since 2008! Well done.

ANZAC DAY Assembly

Last Thursday was an important opportunity for our whole school to come together to commemorate ANZAC Day. Our School Captains, Frances, Grace and Milla did an excellent job leading the assembly. Our singing group ‘The Jets’ performed beautifully the song, The Last ANZAC, which captured the essence of the ANZAC spirit. Thank you to Brian Burton for his attendance and for beautifully reciting ‘The Ode’. It was lovely that many parents could be there for this special occasion.

SRC Badges

Following the ANZAC Day commemoration, SRC badges were proudly presented to the newly elected members. Each recipient stepped forward with a sense of honour, receiving their badge as a symbol of responsibility and dedication to making a positive impact within the school community. The presentation marked an important milestone, encouraging student voice and active participation in shaping school life. Congratulations to all the students who were elected into this position.

2026 Preps

Believe it or not we are well underway with our Prep enrolments for 2026. It is important for us to have a clear picture of the number of our current families with a little one starting school at Gardenvale PS next year. Please download and complete the enrolment form from our website. We would really appreciate if completed forms could be returned to the Junior Campus Office as soon as possible.

Uniform Comms

As you may be aware, we have gone through a rebrand including new signage on both campuses of the school. These changes have been introduced into our new sleek uniform design.  Please note the new addition of the House T-shirts, which will be available in store from late May. These are optional and will be able to be worn by students for House events and PE days. The Year 6 sports top will be needed by Year 6s from 2026 and will be able to be worn on Fridays as well as PE days.

Please see slides below for all information about the uniform as well as a storyboard which shows all of the options available.
