In Our Classrooms

YEAR 5 LEARNING IN CURIOSITY
Term 2 is off to an exciting start for our Year 5 students, with many wonderful learning opportunities ahead. In week 1, students engaged in learning about ANZAC Day. As part of our school-wide commemoration, students created beautiful wreaths which were presented at our Primary Years ANZAC Day ceremony. Our Curiosity unit this term focuses on Civics and Citizenship. Students will investigate what it means to be an Australian and global citizen, how people become Australian citizens, and the ways individuals can participate in society. They will also explore the differences between rights and responsibilities as citizens. To conclude the unit, students will complete an end of term research project, where they will identify an issue and propose possible solutions as part of a plan for action.
YEAR 1 CURIOSITY PROJECT
Last term as part of their Curiosity Unit students in Year 1 created display boards based on each of our four College Values. These are currently displayed outside the Year 1 classrooms but will be on display in the Primary Years.
YEAR 6 MATHS PROJECT
Our Year 6 students have been working hard on their understanding of angles. They have used this knowledge to create their own Holey Moley Mini Golf Courses. Students used their protractors to measure the angles of the shots and classify these angles into their respective categories. We are so proud of their attention to detail, and the pride they have in their work during this task.
PREP LEARNING IN THE CLASSROOM
Students in Year Prep are continuing to focus on learning sounds and letters, including practising the correct formation of each letter. They have also focused on learning about time. Students learnt about different times of the day including morning, afternoon, evening and night time and drew pictures to show the sorts of activities they do at those times of the day.
SPORTS UPDATE
Hazel Glen Cross Country Carnival: A Celebration of Spirit and Determination
The Hazel Glen Cross Country Carnival was a fantastic day of running, cheering, and school spirit. Despite the forecast, the rain held off, allowing all events to go ahead in perfect conditions. Students from every house gave their all, with enthusiastic support from teachers, parents, and peers creating an electric atmosphere. From the first race to the last, everyone showed determination and resilience as they tackled the course.
Whether sprinting to the finish or digging deep to complete the race, every participant played a vital role. The competition was tight all day, with every point mattering. Each house rallied behind its runners, knowing that even one position could make a difference. In the end, Chang House claimed victory, beating Wood House by just 1 point in an incredibly close finish.
Congratulations to all houses for their strong performances and teamwork. A special congratulations goes out to the students selected to represent Hazel Glen at the District Cross Country event on 28th May. These runners showed exceptional endurance and effort, and we know they will represent our school with pride. Thank you to the staff, volunteers, and spectators who helped make the day such a success. Your support and enthusiasm made a big difference. Most of all, thank you to every student who took part—whether racing, cheering, or helping behind the scenes. Your efforts made the carnival a true celebration of determination, sportsmanship, and Hazel Glen spirit.
