Head of Primary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,
Welcome back to Term 2. I hope that you all had an enjoyable Easter with your family. We are looking forward to a busy term ahead full of interesting and engaging learning for the students with many extracurricular opportunities available such as our continued Interschool Sport program, excursions, camp preparations, Education Week, clubs and other special celebrations. The students have settled so well back into their classes and so far we have already had a busy few days with many events.
Our Primary Years ANZAC Service was held on Thursday 24th of April and involved all classes from Prep to Year 6 who attended the formal event in the gym. I would like to thank the students listed below from the Student Leadership Academy who presented at the Service, Ms Lambie and the Primary Years Choir who performed 'I am Australian', 'My Island Home' and the National Anthem. I would also like to thank all of our students and staff who created class wreaths to present during the service to commemorate this important event. I was fortunate enough to attend the Laurimar Dawn Service with our captains and our Voices of Hazel Glen performed really making our College proud.

Congratulations to all the students from Years 4, 5 and 6 who participated in the House Cross Country on Wednesday. Students and staff enjoyed the event and all participants tried their best. Congratulations to Chang House who were the winning house. Thank you to Cath Wignell who assisted as our parent helper for the event. Thank you also to the parents, grandparents and other special guests who came along to cheer on the students.
A reminder for all families to remember to be safe when dropping or picking students up from school. Our roads and parking can get quite congested and we have many students walking or riding to and from school. We appreciate that all drivers ensure that our roads surrounding the Primary Years are safe. Please also ensure you know the laws around using power-assisted bicycles and scooters (e-bikes, e-scooters), i.e. you must wear a helmet and be 16 years old or older.
Hazel Glen College Primary Years Leadership will be available at the our HGC Kinder on Monday 5th of May for a Meet and Greet. Prospective Prep 2026 parents and families are welcome to attend to find out more information about our Prep program and Primary Years.
Please come along between the hours of 11am to 1:30pm. We look forward to meeting you.
We held our 2026 Primary Years Prep Information Evening on Tuesday and it was pleasing to see families from our Hazel Glen Kinder and also from local centres who were excited to hear and see everything great that our Primary Years has to offer. Again, we are proud of our College environment and the opportunities, facilities and resources that being a K-12 precinct means that we can offer. We are excited to welcome new and existing families to our 2026 Prep cohort. If you have yet to submit your Prep 2026 enrolment form, please do so at your earliest convenience and drop it off at our Primary Years reception to assist with our forward planning. If you know of anyone who may be looking for a school for their child who is starting prep next year, please let them know to check out our College on our website or on our socials for further information.
