Grade 1/2 ANZAC Day Poems
Our Grade 1/2 students have been learning about the significance of ANZAC Day and the importance of remembrance. As part of this learning, they each wrote their own thoughtful poems to honour the ANZACs. The students explored themes of courage, sacrifice, and gratitude, drawing on what they’ve learned in class. Their poems are heartfelt and show great empathy for those who have served. We are proud of the respect and creativity they have shown throughout this writing project.
In Grade 1/2H, Mr K read the book ANZAC Biscuits to the class, and they enjoyed the yummy homemade ANZAC Biscuits he brought in to share.
ANZAC DAY DAWN SERVICE
By 12 H
Wake up early
Before the sun rises
Get dressed
Hop on a tram
Walk to the Shrine of Remembrance
There’s a big crowd
Listening to important people
Remembering and talking about soldiers we’ve lost
The Eternal Flame burns forever
Respectful soldiers marching in a straight line
The bugler plays ‘The Last Post’
Serious but sad faces.
