Already we are in Week 3, which is hard to believe! Term 2 has had a busy start, with lots of action and celebrations.
Thank you to Polly Campos-Etienne (Ms Polly), who prepares our newsletter each edition. We are happy to announce that we have converted our newsletters to digital format, and using the platform Naavi. This will ensure our newsletter can be translated into different languages. With a school where over half of our students and families speak a language other than English at home, it is important that our communication reaches everyone.
We will be running some parent workshops on how to access our newsletter on the following dates:
Friday 9th May: 10:00-10:30am
Friday 23rd May: 10:00-10:30am.
Over Week 1, our students were learning about Australian History and the journey of the ANZACs. Our school captains led us through a lovely commemorative assembly on Thursday 24th April, where some students from each class read out their ANZAC Day writing.
Our 5/6 students played their first Inter-School Sports competition on Friday 5th May, as we hosted Footscray North PS at Dinjerra. Even though we didn’t win on the day, the students showed our SOAR values, as they persevered and tried their hardest.
Jim Kinniburgh, our much-loved literacy consultant, celebrated his 80th birthday on the 4th of May. On Monday 5th, we spoiled Jim with a whole school assembly, where students from each class presented Jim with class books, poems and special writing pieces. We launched our ‘Jim Kinniburgh Mobile Library’, filled with books that remind us of Mr. K. The mobile library will be wheeled out to the newly named ‘Jim Kinniburgh Outdoor Learning Deck’, so that students can read while sitting on the comfy cushions on the deck at recess and lunch.
As you may already know, Jim has been incredibly influential in my own career as a teacher, and I am thrilled to be able to share Jim and his expertise with the staff and students at Dinjerra.
80 years young!
We have recently updated our school policies. If you would like to access them, Please visit the POLICIES tab on our school website. Your feedback is welcomed.

I would like to congratulate the following staff on being the successful applicants in the following new substantive positions:
Thank you to our Fundraising Committee for co-ordinating our Mother’s Day / Special Person’s Day Stall. I had my eye on some of the gifts, and now that I am a Dinjerra mum (my son Tommy is in Year 5), I hope I get a surprise on Sunday. Profits from the stall will contribute to our 2025 Fundraising total.
I would like to wish all the Dinjerra mums and nans a Happy Mother’s Day for this weekend. I would also like to acknowledge the Dinjerra dads and grandparents who take on the mother role for your children. I hope you all have a lovely day with your families.
Teachers have made individual comments on progress on the Cycle 1 Mathematics Individual Goals. Families can access these comments by going to Learning Tasks on Comments and selecting Cycle 1.
Parents are encouraged to write a parent comment in this section.
Other Progress Comments will be available in the next few weeks:
Cycle 2 Mathematics goals have been assigned in Compass.
On Sunday 25th May, Dinjerra will be facilitating the Bunnings Sunshine Sausage Sizzle. This annual event is a great fundraiser for us, however we need your help to make it successful! If you could volunteer an hour or two to either cook, serve or greet customers, your help would be greatly appreciated. Please see Hong in the office if you are able to volunteer.
We will be celebrating Education Week by hosting Open Classrooms on Friday 23rd May from 9-10am. Open Classrooms are an opportunity for families to join in the learning in the classrooms. Feel free to come along, sit with your child/ren and participate in the first lesson of the day!
Thank you,
Natalie.
