A Message from Keir and Emma

“We would like to acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, the first people to dream, create, wonder, dance, play and learn on this breathtaking land. This land was cared for and respected for tens of thousands of years. The First Nations people lived in companionship with the animals and the life on this land. We acknowledge that this is stolen land and we pay our respects to elders, past, present and emerging.”

Rayma Atkinson (2023 Suzanne Peterson Award Recipient)

We would like to welcome everyone back to BNWPS for term two. We hope that you all had a lovely restful and rejuvenating break, and that you were all able to do things that filled your buckets. It is so lovely to have everyone back. Today the classrooms were filled with wonderful term two buzz - students and staff are all settled in; they know the routines and expectations in their classrooms, and they’re all ready and set to jump right in to learning and growing. Term two is a great term!

Staffing Update

This term, Michael Mclaughlan and Tom Dartnell return from parental leave. We welcome them both back, and say a huge thank you to Jamie Marcetic and Kate Stapleton, who taught their grades while they were away. Michael will be teaching MMM full time, while Tom will be teaching FTD from Tuesday to Friday. Jenny Wheatcroft, our wonderful Performing Arts teacher who also has extensive experience teaching Foundation, will be taking FTD on Mondays.

ANZAC Day and Student-Led Conferences

A reminder that this Friday is ANZAC Day, which means that there will be no school.

Additionally, next Thursday 1st May we are running our Student-Led Conferences (SLCs). On this day, students are only expected to attend school with their parents or carers at the time of their appointment. Our OSHC service will be available for any families who need childcare. Appointments for SLCs can be made through Sentral. Please contact your child’s teacher if you need some support with this. All SLCs this term will be face to face.

Classroom Helpers Workshop

In term two, we begin our classroom helpers program. We invite parents, carers and family members to volunteer in our classrooms and other areas of the school. Often, classroom helpers will support teachers with their Reading, Writing and Maths programs. We also love it when we have ‘parent experts’ present to our students. If you are interested in participating in our classroom helpers program, we encourage you to attend the information session next Monday 28th April, at 10:00am. Anyone attending the session will need to sign in at the office first. If you would like further information, please contact Emma at emma.mallia@education.vic.gov.au
