Number & Algebra   I   Measurement & Geometry   I   Statistics & Probability

In Term 2, we will be covering the following areas in Mathematics:

  • Place value - building on previous learning to use place value knowledge to solve addition and subtraction problems.
  • Multiplicative thinking - consolidating past learning to understand different representations of multiplication, including groups and arrays.
  • Fractional thinking - using knowledge of sharing to solve problems, and recognizing simple fractions such as halves, quarters and eighths.
  • Measurement - beginning to understand ways to measure capacity
  • Time - becoming more familiar with the features of digital and analog clocks, including telling the time to a quarter of an hour.
  • Space - identifying and understanding the features of 2D and 3D shapes and how the two connect to one another.

At the beginning of each Mathematics lesson, students will have opportunities for interleaving where we briefly revise previous mathematical concepts taught through short warm-up exercises. These daily revision lessons allows students to have multiple exposures to new knowledge and promotes the retention of this knowledge in long-term memory and deeper understanding.
