Division Cross Country

Last Friday saw us taking 11 students to the Sovereign Division Cross Country.

It was the perfect day for running and our students made the most of it. Results as follows.

10 yr boys: Kade (7th), Harry (8th), Cooper (10th) and John (26th).

11 yr boys: Oliver (7th), Tom (9th) and Brax (13th).

12 yr boys: Jai (10th), Drew (22nd) and Jobe (28th).

12yr girls: Stephanie (9th).

Well done to all runners on a fantastic effort. Congratulations to the students that finished in the top 12, that will now move on to compete in the Regional Champs in Warrnambool on Monday 26th May.

Soccer

After only 2 very short training sessions, the girls team stepped onto the soccer field with only 1 team member who had actually played before. The first game was tough as the girls tried to figure out how the game worked, but they did so well, keeping the other team to only 2 goals, losing 2-0.

The second game they straight away put all they had learned into practice - fiercely protecting the opponents’ goals and aggressively attacking their own and supporting each other wherever needed. Once they scored their first goal there was no turning back. Everything clicked and they went on to score another 2 goals, coming away with a 3-1 win.

The next game they were hungry for more and worked so well as a team to come away with a 2-1 win, pushing them into second place in their pool and a spot in the semifinals.

Up against the very strong and experienced team from Forrest St the girls attacked the game with skill and determination. While they lost the game 2-0, I was so proud of their amazing efforts against such a strong team. They did amazing to keep the margin so low.

The girls are the be commended for their hard work and determination. They learnt on the run and the teamwork, encouragement and support of each other was amazing. And a massive shout out to our goalies - Wren and Neve. A scary position to take on, but they did amazing.

Kristin Harmer (coach)

The boys had a similar story, although they had a few more experienced players there were still a number of players that had never played organised soccer before.

The first game against Alfredton was tough and it took everyone a little while to find their rhythm. Going down 2-0 but setting the team up with a plan and more confidence leading into the next game. The next game, all players had settled the nerves and were ready to play some really solid team soccer playing Buninyong in a 2 all draw. After scoring a couple of goals the team had worked out a plan of attack to keep the momentum going moving into their game against Black Hill. In this game did they not only continue scoring but also worked out how to stop them scoring. Great team defence and some sensational goal keeping saw us beat Black Hill 3-0. The final game was always going to be a tough one with Clarendon College having a full team of experienced players and a huge amount of confidence. The North boys played a great game keeping the eventual overall winners to just 3 goals. Again, some heroic goal keeping by Elijah stopped it from being more.

Well done to all involved in the day. The teamwork, effort and sportsmanship shown by all players was fantastic all day. It was also wonderful to see so many students who had never played organised soccer before improving so much throughout the day. Largely contributed to Kristin Harmer, Megan Nestor and Tiff Kittelty offering their coaching prowess and the more experienced students being such great teammates.
