Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Opens Next Week!

The wait is almost over! Next week, the curtain rises on Doncaster Secondary College's production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and we can't wait to welcome audiences to this magical musical adventure.

Join Charlie Bucket as he embarks on the adventure of a lifetime inside Willy Wonka's extraordinary chocolate factory. Filled with unforgettable songs, colourful characters, dazzling costumes and spectacular performances from our talented students, this is a production the whole family will enjoy.

Our cast, crew, and staff have spent months bringing this beloved story to life, and their hard work is sure to delight audiences of all ages.

The eccentric Willy Wonka, who runs the most mysterious chocolate factory in the world, has decided to invite five lucky golden ticket-winning children into his factory.

National Tree Day

Join in for a fun, family‑friendly day of planting and celebration at Manningham Council’s National Tree Day 2026. Set in Mullum Mullum Reserve, Donvale (corner of Reynolds Road and Springvale Road), this event will be a festival of planting, learning, and connecting with nature. 

Planting up to 12,000 trees, shrubs and grasses, it’s an opportunity to learn about local nature and habitat. There will an art station to decorate your very own tree guard, face painting activities, a coffee van, music, and it will finish off with a celebratory BBQ for all participants. They hope to have over 500 community members to take part. Whether you can stay all morning or just drop by briefly, every plant counts. 

The 2026 planting site will help to create more habitat and protection for the Mullum Mullum Creek and strengthening this important wildlife corridor. Commencing at 10am, pop long along, get your hands dirty, meet your community, and be part of something that will grow for generations to come.

The event is free but you need to register to be part of the day. Please hop onto the Manningham Council to register.

Celebrating National Gymnastics Success

Congratulations to our talented Year 7 students, Olivia Gheorghisor and Dakota Markulija, who achieved outstanding results at the recent National Gymnastics Championships in Sydney.

Representing the Victorian State Team in the Future International competition, Olivia delivered an exceptional performance to become an Australian Champion, winning:

• 🥇 Gold Medal – Team Victoria

• 🥇 Gold Medal – Vault (13 Years & Under)

   

Adding to this remarkable achievement, Olivia has also been selected to attend the prestigious Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) High Performance Camp.

Dakota also impressed on the national stage, earning a Bronze Medal in the Tumbling International Division. At just 12 years old, Dakota competed in the Under 15 International division, making this an extraordinary accomplishment. Dakota is now working towards qualifying for the World Championships and, ultimately, the Olympic Games.

We are incredibly proud of Olivia and Dakota for their dedication, perseverance and outstanding achievements. Congratulations to both students on representing themselves, their families and our College with such excellence. We wish them every success in their future competitions.

Year 12 VCE VM Student Featured During Ministerial Visit Celebrating Apprenticeships

Congratulations to Year 12 student James Musso, who was recently featured during a special ministerial visit to Employer Demand Power in Heidelberg West, recognising the value of apprenticeships and vocational education pathways.

James, who is undertaking a School-Based Apprenticeship (SBAT) in Electrotechnology, had the opportunity to share his experiences with Minister for Skills and Training, Andrew Giles, and local MP Kate Thwaites, speaking about the benefits of combining secondary school with paid employment and formal training.

The visit highlighted the important role that School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs) play in preparing young people for rewarding careers in skilled industries. James' journey is a fantastic example of how students can gain valuable hands-on experience while completing their secondary education.

The event attracted staff from the Minister's Office, government representatives and media, with Channel 10 News featuring the visit as part of its weekend news coverage.

We are incredibly proud of James for representing Doncaster Secondary College and showcasing the exciting opportunities available through vocational education. We wish him every success as he continues his apprenticeship and prepares for a bright future in the electrical industry.

Celebrating Our 2026 Commonwealth Games Alumni: Abbey Caldwell and Steph Ratcliffe

The Doncaster Secondary College community is incredibly proud to celebrate the achievements of two outstanding alumni who will represent Australia at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Stephanie Ratcliffe (Class of 2018) has been selected to compete in the Hammer Throw, while Abbey Caldwell (Class of 2019) will represent Australia in the 800 metres and the 1500 metres. Their selection is the latest milestone in two remarkable athletic careers that continue to inspire our College community.

Both Stephanie and Abbey proudly represented Australia at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, achieving what many athletes dream of and showcasing their talent on the world's biggest sporting stage. Stephanie competed in the women's hammer throw, while Abbey impressed in the 800 metres, advancing to the semi-finals in her Olympic debut.

Stephanie's journey has seen her become one of Australia's leading hammer throwers, breaking the Australian national record, and claiming multiple national titles. Abbey, a Commonwealth Games bronze medallist from Birmingham 2022, has established herself as one of Australia's premier middle-distance runners, earning national championships and international success while consistently competing against the world's best athletes.

Their selection to wear the green and gold is a testament to years of dedication, resilience and hard work, and is an inspiration to our current students. Seeing former Doncaster students achieve success at the highest level of international sport demonstrates what is possible through commitment, perseverance and a passion for excellence.

At 25 years old, both Abbey and Steph have already accomplished so much, and we are confident that their future in athletics is incredibly bright. We look forward to cheering them on as they continue to excel, and the entire Doncaster Secondary College community will be cheering them on!
