School Council Report

Our School Council continues to be built on strong relationships, with members modelling our school values of Kindness, Resilience and Responsibility while acting with integrity in all that we do. We are committed to being open, transparent and positive in our communication with staff, students, families and the wider school community. Through collaboration and shared commitment, we work together to support the ongoing success of our school and the achievement of our goals.
School Council members welcome the opportunity to hear from our community. If you see us around the school, please feel free to stop and have a chat or share your feedback.
Facilities and Grounds
One of our key priorities is advocating for improvements to our school grounds and facilities to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students. During Macutex's site visit on Thursday 26 and Friday 27, three significant areas of concern were identified. Macutex advised that all three items will be included in their final report and classified as Priority 2.
Areas of Concern
1. Artificial Grass Areas
The condition of the artificial grass and surrounding areas has deteriorated significantly. Concerns include:
- Poor drainage resulting in water pooling and increased slipping hazards.
- Uneven surfaces caused by sinking in various locations, creating trip hazards.
- Sections of turf sitting below adjoining concrete pathways, presenting additional safety risks.
School Council believes the artificial grass requires complete replacement, including levelling of the foundation and installation of a new surface. Given the potential risks to students, staff, visitors and community members, we consider this issue to be a Priority 1 safety concern.
2. Student Toilet Facilities (Girls WC 26 and Boys WC 28)
The student toilet blocks are in urgent need of repair. The flooring has deteriorated to the point where it absorbs liquid, including waste, resulting in persistent odours and unsanitary conditions.
The report identified the following defects:
- A light fitting in WC 28 classified as Priority 1.
- Tiling requiring repair (Defect No. 15656592) – Priority 3.
- Cladding requiring painting (Defect No. 15656593) – Priority 3.
- Ceiling crack requiring repair and painting (Defect No. 1565694) – Priority 3.
- Partition requiring repair (Defect No. 1565695) – Priority 3.
School Council believes these defects do not fully reflect the extent of the issues present in both toilet blocks. We strongly advocate for both facilities and their associated defects to be considered Priority 1 due to the health, safety and wellbeing implications for students.
3. Drainage and Ground Levelling Near Portable Classrooms
The land located between the portable classrooms and the gym, as well as the areas between the portable classrooms themselves, is uneven and lacks adequate drainage. These conditions create safety concerns and require remediation to improve accessibility and usability of the space.
Further information regarding these matters can be found in the Leadership Report.
School Council will continue to advocate strongly for these improvements and keep our community informed of any progress
Community Events and Fundraising
A huge thank you to our dedicated Community Engagement and Fundraising (CEF) members and parent volunteers who worked tirelessly over three days to set up, run and pack up our annual Mother's Day Stall. The stall was attended by all classes across two days and provided students with a wonderful opportunity to purchase a special gift for the important people in their lives.
Mother's Day Stall Results
- Moon and Back invoice: $3,295.00
- Total takings: $3,737.85
Profit raised: $442.85
We sincerely thank our volunteers and families for their support, which contributed to the success of this event.
More recently, we held our Pyjama Day Gold Coin Donation Fundraiser. The weather was certainly fitting, with students enjoying a cosy and warm day while dressed in their favourite pyjamas during the winter chill.
Thank you to the families who supported the day through gold coin donations and by purchasing snack meals from the canteen. Together, we raised $237.40 for our school community.
We greatly appreciate the ongoing support of our families and volunteers, whose contributions help make these events possible and strengthen our school community. We are also proud to provide an update on the learning that has been occurring at CPS. Please read the full document here:
