A Celebration of Music at the Winter Concert

The Huntingtower Music Centre's Winter Concert was a wonderful celebration of student achievement, showcasing the talent, dedication and enthusiasm of our young musicians from Prep through to Year 9.

The evening celebrated the richness of Huntingtower's music program, with performances from a wide range of ensembles spanning choirs, bands, string ensembles, percussion ensembles and guitar ensembles.

Reminding us all where the journey with music all begins: The concert began with some of our youngest performers, with students from Prep to Year 2 delighting the audience as members of the Little Choir.

Throughout the program, audiences were treated to performances from the Junior School Strings, Junior School Percussion Ensemble, Year 5–6 Band, Prelude Concert Band, Intermezzo Concert Band, Intermezzo Strings, Guitar Ensemble, Middle School Choir, Year 7 Chamber Choir, Year 8 Chamber Choir and Year 9 Chamber Choir. Each ensemble displayed impressive musical growth, demonstrating not only technical skill but also a strong sense of teamwork, musicianship and performance confidence.

One of the most inspiring aspects of the evening was seeing students of different ages united through music. From our newest musicians taking their first steps onto the stage to our more experienced performers leading by example, the concert reflected the vibrant and supportive culture of music at Huntingtower.

The Winter Concert serves as an important milestone in the musical year, providing students with the opportunity to share their learning with family and friends while experiencing the excitement and responsibility of live performance. The standard of performance across all ensembles was exceptional and a testament to the dedication of our students and the guidance of our Music Centre staff.

Congratulations to every performer and member of staff who contributed to the success of the evening. We also extend our sincere thanks to our music teachers, accompanists, conductors, support staff and families whose encouragement and commitment help make these opportunities possible.

The Winter Concert was a fitting celebration of creativity, perseverance and community, and we look forward to seeing our young musicians continue to flourish in future performances.

Visits from Principia!

This week we bid farewell to Olivia Frank who visited from Principia College in the USA for a three-week placement.

We sincerely thank her for the enthusiasm, professionalism and positivity she brought to our Music Department. During her time with us, Olivia worked closely with Mr David Mowat and the Music team, immersing herself in classroom lessons, rehearsals and supporting our Winter concert. Her passion for music education, willingness to contribute and genuine interest in our students made her a valued member of the Huntingtower community.

Our year 8 students, pictured below, greatly appreciated her feedback and insights as a fellow musician and experienced performer.

It has been a pleasure to host Olivia as part of our ongoing connection with Principia College. We wish her all the best for the remainder of her time in Australia and hope she returns to visit us all again soon!

Senior Choir and HT Big Band Collaboration Brings The Erie Canal to Life

Earlier this term, members of the Senior Choir and HT Big Band came together for an exciting cross-ensemble collaboration, combining their talents to perform and record The Erie Canal.

The project provided students with a unique opportunity to work alongside peers from different musical disciplines. Opportunities such as these allow students to experience music-making beyond the concert stage and develop valuable skills in collaboration, recording and performance preparation.

Adding another exciting dimension to the project, the performance was filmed by the Huntingtower Film Crew, who have been working behind the scenes to edit the footage into a professionally presented video.

We congratulate all members of the Senior Choir, HT Big Band and Film Crew for their dedication and hard work. We look forward to sharing the finished video with the Huntingtower community in the coming weeks.
