Athletics Carnival
The weather played nicely and we were able to finally hold both our Senior School and Junior School Athletics carnivals. Well done to all who ran, jumped or threw on the day. It was great to see our students push themselves and rival their other houses. Stay tuned for the final House results!
A big congratulations to the following students who broke records during the carnival: Iris Thornton-Dibb (High Jump); Ziggy Walton (High Jump) and Zara Nicholas (Shot put and Discus). The HICES and ISA Athletics team will be finalised early Term 3 so stay tuned for communication on your selection.
Finally, a big thank you to our parent volunteers on both days who took up a variety of roles to ensure it ran smoothly. I would also like to thanks our Year 9 PASS students who assisted in events at the Junior School Athletics carnival.

The program will commence Week 1, Friday 24th July and will run for 8 weeks, finishing Friday 11th September. See Schoolbox for further information.
If any students are interested in School holiday camps, please see the flyer from FCX sports.
CIS Primary Football
World Cup fever began early for the Junior School with some of our students representing HICES at the recent CIS Football Championships.
Matilda Pierce, Margot de Mulder, Poppy Draguns and Winnie Decker represented the girls at Valentine Park while Henry Isbister, Matthew Sidarous and Elijah Thornton-Dibb went up to Lake Macquarie. All players represented our school so well. Despite the HICES teams not progressing, a day out playing Football is always a winner!
ISA Winter Sports
It has been a great term for our Winter Sports. I would like to personally thank our wonderful MICs who ensure this program runs smoothly each week. Round 8 of the competition kicks off Week 1, Term 3 so it’s important to keep being physically active during the holidays to maintain match fitness.

NETBALL
Round 6: Firsts vs. Barker – Win 40-26
There’s always something special about a home game. Having family and friends on the sidelines cheering us on creates a wonderful atmosphere and gives the team a great sense of pride as they take the court. With assessments and exams filling the week, training looked a little different than usual. It was a fun and energetic session, reminding us all how valuable sport can be as an outlet during busy and stressful times, while also providing the support and connection that comes from being part of a team.
Heading into this match against Barker, our goal was simple: to improve on our previous performance and extend the margin from our last meeting. We wanted to see tangible evidence that our hard work at training was translating onto the court. Before the game, we gathered in our huddle and shared our personal commitments to one another - a tradition that continues to strengthen the trust and connection within this group. The team delivered on its intentions, steadily increasing the margin quarter by quarter. The girls remained composed, trusted the game plan, and executed it with discipline and confidence.
A major focus at training has been defensive pressure across the entire court, and it certainly paid dividends. We created numerous tips and intercepts, turning defensive efforts into attacking opportunities and rewarding one another by converting those gains into goals. The athleticism, determination, and teamwork displayed throughout the match were outstanding. Every player contributed, and the result was a convincing win that further strengthened the team’s belief in themselves and the progress they are making. One of our favourite team traditions is presenting a BMGS Netball pin to the travelling captain and the team-selected MVP. It is a wonderful reflection of the sportsmanship, respect, and culture that this group continues to build.
As always, our sincere thanks go to the umpires and our volunteer bench officials for their support. A special thank you also to our team photographer, Ava, who is capturing memories and moments of our season.

Round 6: Seconds vs. Barker – Win 38-34
Our first home game of the season was a success, with a win over Barker after having only just lost the last time we came up against them. During this game, the team worked well to identify the struggles they had been having in the past and adjusted to work efficiently and transfer the ball down the court. This game, there was a significant increase in efficiency to translate the defensive turnovers into points on the scoreboard. Rose Nicholas had a fantastic game in goal attack, scoring more goals in one quarter of netball than she had previously done in 3 quarters. The team worked well together this week, with some areas that we will continue to strengthen for the remainder of our games this season.

Round 6: Inters v Barker - Loss 43-18
The Intermediate BMGS netball team put in a strong performance against Barker this week. The girls showed great determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the match, working hard in every quarter and supporting one another on the court.
Despite their efforts, BMGS unfortunately came away with a loss. However, the team should be proud of their resilience and positive attitude, with many strong passages of play and excellent defensive pressure. It was a valuable learning experience, and the girls continue to improve with each game. Well done to all players for their commitment and effort.

Round 6: Juniors – Loss 27-11
It was a tough game, but the team played really well and never gave up. Improvements are starting to come through, with much better ball movement down the court creating more opportunities in attack. There was also some great defensive effort, showing strong pressure and awareness across the court. These are really positive signs for the team — let’s keep pushing and building on this progress each week!

Round 7: Firsts vs Redlands – Win 40-15
True to the spirit of this team, we enjoyed another strong training session during the week, with every player arriving on game day ready to contribute and compete.
Following a solid warm-up, we gathered for our team huddle, where each player shared their commitment to the team and what they would bring to the game. This has become an important ritual for us and reflects the accountability and connection within this group.
Our focus was to start strongly and maintain our intensity and work rate for the full four quarters - and the team delivered exactly that.
Both sides played with great discipline and determination, making for an enjoyable contest. Once again, our versatility was on display, with seamless positional changes and combinations throughout the game.
Every player embraced the game plan and executed their role exceptionally well. While the scoreboard reflected a comfortable win, the team remained focused on continual improvement, using the opportunity to practise our set plays, including effective use of the pocket and our backline throw-ins.
It was a fantastic team performance, highlighted by strong execution, excellent sportsmanship, and a commitment to playing the game the right way.
Thank you, as always, to our umpires (Go Team White!) and our wonderful bench volunteers for their ongoing support.

Round 7: Opens vs St Spyridon – Loss 39-33
Over the weekend, the 2nds played against St Spyridon’s at home. The game started off rocky, but with the constant, high-energy encouragement from the team members on the sideline, the group was able to come within 2 points. Hannah filled in for the team, working well in the defensive end with the leadership of our defenders to help guide her.
With a loss of only 5, there is a lot to take away from this game and the team can walk away with their heads held high. Moving forward, we will continue to work on strengthening our communication and developing cohesion in our movement from defensive turnovers to translating that to points on the scoreboard. With a break coming up, the team is in good form and to finish the season strongly.

Round 7: Inters vs Redlands – Loss 32-24
The Intermediate BMGS netball team displayed excellent effort and teamwork in their match against Redlands. The girls worked hard across the court, demonstrating strong communication, determination, and a willingness to support one another in both attack and defence.
Although the result did not go BMGS's way, the team showed great resilience and continued to compete until the final whistle. There were many positive moments throughout the game, with players applying pressure, creating opportunities, and showcasing their improving skills.
The girls should be proud of their commitment and sportsmanship, and they will take valuable lessons from the match as they continue to develop throughout the season.

Round 7: Juniors vs Chevalier – Win 18-8
What a game! It was so exciting to see all the hard work from training come together and show on the court. The team played with great energy and confidence, and it was fantastic to watch everything start to click.
There were some excellent rebounds, along with much stronger communication across the court, which really helped keep everyone connected and organised. Passing was sharp and purposeful, and the defence was outstanding, with some great pressure and well-timed intercepts. The movement of the ball down the court was a real highlight, creating strong opportunities in attack.
Most importantly, the effort and teamwork from every player stood out. Everyone played their role and supported one another right until the final whistle.
The girls should be very proud of how they played, and of the improvement they’ve shown this week — a fantastic result and a great team performance!
