From the

Head of  Senior School

As we reach the conclusion of Term 2, I would like to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredibly busy and rewarding term in the Senior School.

There have been so many highlights throughout the term that it is difficult to single out just one. Throughout the term, our students have participated in a wide range of academic, co-curricular and enrichment opportunities.

Our Year 11 Winter Ball was a wonderful occasion, providing students with the opportunity to celebrate together and create lasting memories. The atmosphere throughout the evening reflected the strong sense of community that exists within our Senior School.

The Odyssey Showcase Nights provided a fantastic platform for students to share their learning and passions with the wider community, while the Daffodil Project challenged students to think deeply about service, leadership and making a positive impact beyond themselves.

We also enjoyed the Senior School Production, which showcased the incredible talent, dedication and teamwork of our students and staff. The countless hours of rehearsals and preparation culminated in performances of an exceptionally high standard and were thoroughly enjoyed by all who attended.

Beyond these major events, our students have continued to immerse themselves in the rich co-curricular life of the School. Whether through music ensembles, debating, public speaking, drama, Duke of Edinburgh, Outdoor Leadership, service initiatives, leadership opportunities, academic competitions and a wide variety of clubs and activities, our students continue to embrace opportunities to develop their talents, pursue their passions and contribute positively to the School community. The willingness of students to get involved and challenge themselves beyond the classroom is one of the great strengths of the Senior School.

The Creative Arts Immersion Day showcased the talents and leadership of our students, while the Careers Expo and university visits provided valuable insights into future pathways. We were also privileged to host the Consent Lab workshops, which encouraged important conversations around respectful relationships and personal responsibility.

Our sporting community continues to thrive. The Athletics Carnival was a fantastic day of competition, participation and House spirit, with students enthusiastically supporting one another throughout the event. Across the term, many students also represented the School in ISA Sport, demonstrating commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship while competing against schools from across the association. Congratulations to all students who represented the School throughout the term, particularly those recognised at our Colours Sport Assembly. The commitment, perseverance and sportsmanship displayed by our students continues to be a source of pride.

The Stage 5 and Year 11 Subject Selection processes were another significant focus this term. It was inspiring to see students thoughtfully considering their future pathways and engaging in discussions with staff about the opportunities available to them. One Year 8 student described the Subject Selection afternoon as a "teacher showcase" - a wonderful reflection of the passion and expertise our teachers bring to their subjects each day.

We finished the term with an outstanding Spirit Week. What a wonderful way to conclude the semester! From beanies and pyjamas to decades dress-ups and House activities, it was fantastic to see students embracing the fun and demonstrating such strong House spirit. A special thank you to the Student Council for organising this wonderful event and helping to create such a positive and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone.

As we conclude the term, I would also like to extend a huge thank you to Mrs Lauren Wade, who has done a wonderful job filling in for Mrs Megan Harris during her leave. Lauren has brought warmth, professionalism and a genuine care for students to the role, and we are incredibly grateful for her contribution to the Senior School community. We look forward to welcoming Megan back next term and thank Lauren for all she has done during her time with us.

As always, none of these opportunities would be possible without the dedication of our staff. Whether in the classroom, on camps and excursions, coaching sporting teams, directing performances, or supporting students through the everyday challenges of school life, their commitment to our students is extraordinary. I extend my sincere thanks to all staff for their hard work throughout the semester.

Finally, I would like to acknowledge our students for the way they have approached the term. While the demands of assessment tasks, co-curricular commitments and daily school life can be significant, I have been impressed by the resilience, kindness and determination demonstrated across all year groups.

I wish all students, families and staff a safe and restful holiday break. I encourage everyone to take the opportunity to recharge, spend time with family and friends, and return refreshed for what promises to be an exciting and productive Term 3.

Enjoy the holidays and thank you for your continued support of the Senior School community.

Warm regards,

Alicia Michielsen
