Reset Rooms

As part of a school-wide project, the Allied Health team planned a series of consistent improvements to reset rooms across the school. Our aim was to establish a shared set of core features in all reset spaces to provide students with greater learning opportunities through a range of sensory strategies to support their regulation and emotional wellbeing.

The intention of reset rooms is to offer a distinctly different sensory experience to the classrooms. It’s a space where students can reset when needed to support their re-entry into the classroom. Now all reset spaces offer:

  • adjustable lighting (including block out blinds)

  • lighting features (black lights and star light projectors)

  • soft furnishings (mellow mats)

  • mirrors

  • chalkboards

  • fresh coat of paint

Research suggests that controlled lighting is an essential component of an effective reset space. We've found that adding different lighting features has offered variety to learning experiences for students to engage in – it has been particularly beneficial for students with CVI. The option to use the block out blinds to create a consistently low-stimulus environment regardless of time of day, weather conditions or room orientation has greatly supported student regulation.

It’s been a joy to see the reset rooms become a purposeful space for learning and regulation with how our students and teachers are accessing the new features and interacting with the space.
