Art / Craft

A busy and creative term two is coming to an end. Students finished working on the clay unit focusing on fashion shoes. Students used the slab and coil technique in varying degrees of difficulty to create their shoes. They look so realistic that the kids want to actually wear them!! I am very excited to use the new art room kiln to bisque fire the shoes. It's so much bigger than our old one that I should be able to do this in half the time.
Students also made their paper lanterns for our lantern walk that took place the last Thursday of term two. Students then finger knitted their lantern straps. I was so proud of the foundation students who have eagerly taken on the challenge of learning finger knitting. We had three lovely past Thornbury PS year ten students, Ngalu Thorpe, Ruby Williams and Sataya, doing their work experience in the art room so that has been a lot of fun for me and the students as well.
The photos give you a glimpse of what the kids have been creating.
Some comments from students…
I liked the fashion shoes because you get to use your own ideas and others can see how creative you are! Clay is my favourite thing to do in the art room. Xavier 5/6A
I made a clay shoe with a high heel. I love high heels and I wish I could actually wear my clay shoes. Yilly 5/6A
I enjoyed making the shoes, cutting the shapes and using the rolling pin, then admiring my masterpiece! 4/5A Alby
It was really hard to get the side of the shoes to stand up, but the plastic inside helped with keeping the shape. Ren 4/5A
The fun part was when we got to decorate the outside of the clay shoe and the end result is amazing! Aiofe 4/5A
I loved making the lanterns. I was worried that the light would not show through the coloured paper but I was wrong! We tested it and it was really bright. Aya 4/5A
