Unit Focus - Being an Active Citizen

This term, 5/6 students have unpacked, discussed, and participated in ways of being an active citizen. This started with going on the Walk for Truth with Travis Lovette all the way back in week 1 of term. We walked from the Advancement League, across from the park, all the way down to the Darebin Creek Trail.

Students then learnt about Simon Wonga and William Barak, their commitment to indigenous rights, land, and protection of culture. Learning then focused on the establishment of Coranderrk Mission after their walk to Parliament House from Coranderrk Aboriginal Reserve. Students also then learnt about Michael Long’s experiences leading to establishing The Long Walk, a yearly event to keep Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal voices and futures on the national agenda.

Gala Day - Soccer and Netball

Last Friday, June 19th, students from the Babajen travelled to Narrandjeri Stadium and the nearby ovals to compete in the district round robin for Netball and Soccer.

Both our soccer teams played very well, with one of our teams winning four out of their five games, with margins of 4-0, 2-0, 1-2, 4-1, and 9-0. Unfortunately this was just not enough to make it to the finals and head off to division. Our other team managed to get two wins, two draws, and a single loss in their own pool. Again, it was a fantastic showing by both teams.

Our netball teams tried really hard, showing great sportsmanship, incredible attitudes, and best-in-class respect to the referees on the day. TPS is exceptionally proud of their effort, in light of not even having a netball court at school to practice on, and their pride in showing up and competing with everyone else.
