YEAR 5

FROM THE CLASSROOM

Our Grade 5 students have been working hard across all areas of learning this week.

In Mathematics, students have been learning to use a protractor to measure, classify and name angles. They have also been estimating angles. They used these skills to create a string pattern. 

In Writing, students have been developing their narrative skills by planning and writing their innovation piece of writing. This is based off the mentor text 'The Magic Geode'. 

The students have been focusing on adding action between dialogue.

In Reading, students have been comparing the lives of different people. These have been successful business people which are helping our students gain knowledge they can apply for our Business Innovation Day. They have also been learning to take key notes to create a summary. 

In Inquiry, students have been starting to collect data on the students at Ramlegh Park Primary School. They have been surveying younger students to identify their wants and needs. This data will help in determining what goods or service they would like to provide for Business Innovation Day.

READING

• We are learning to summarise paragraphs to show our understanding of the text.
• We are learning to show our understanding of the meaning of new and uncommon words.

WRITING

• We are learning to add action between dialogue to progress the plot.

MATHS

• We are learning to use a ruler and protractor to construct triangles, given angle measurements, and side lengths.We are learning to use a protractor to measure angles when creating a pattern or string design within a circle.
• We are learning to recognise the size of angles within shapes that do and do not tessellate. 

INQUIRY

• We are learning to Use data and create a graph

WELLBEING
