FROM THE CLASSROOM  

It has been another fabulous week in Prep!

Hub 2 Preps had a fantastic time on their excursion to Myuna Farm on Monday! 

The children loved meeting the farm animals and learning more about life on a farm. 

It was a wonderful opportunity to connect our classroom learning with real-life experiences.

What did the Prep students think of the farm?

During Investigations this week, we explored where milk comes from and discussed how we use products that come from animals. The children were highly engaged in learning about the journey of milk from the farm to our tables and enjoyed sharing their own ideas and experiences.

In Talk for Writing, students have been innovating our information text by changing the focus from wombats to their favourite farm animal. They have been confidently using the 'Instead Of' chart to generate ideas for their writing. It has been exciting to see the children recall facts from our model text and make connections between different animals as they create their own informative pieces.

In Mathematics, we began exploring subtraction through storytelling. Students used a range of hands-on materials to model and solve simple take-away stories, helping them develop a concrete understanding of subtraction before moving to more abstract representations.

MATHS  

• I can use appropriate language to describe the measurement attributes of length (for example, using words like ‘tall’, ‘short’, ‘wide’, ‘long’ and ‘high’).
• I can directly compare pairs of objects to say which is longer/shorter and explain why.

WELLBEING  

• I can identify people who support me.
• I can ask for help others and ask for help when needed.
• I can use a tool from my toolbox to manage my emotions. 

READING  

• I can explore new vocabulary.  
• I can identify the main idea in a text and make connections.   
• I can use the clues in the pictures to infer what is happening.   
• I can ask and answer questions about a text.   

WRITING  

• We are learning to orally innovate an information text by changing the animal and facts. 

REMINDERS  

Reader Bags & Home Reading Journals  

A reminder to make sure your child is bringing their reader bag to school each day. Inside should be a small reader book, take home journal, and M100 Word pouch. Students will be able to take a new reader book each day if the previous one has been returned. It has been exciting to see students already having books written in their journals, and we look forward to celebrating their nightly reading in the classroom!  

Digital Technology Forms  

Please ensure that each section is filled out with your child, and that the form is brought back to school as soon as possible. If you need a replacement form, please contact your child’s teacher. We have begun using iPads THIS WEEK.  

Compass Permissions  

There are still a few of these missing. Please ensure to follow the permission prompts on Compass. This includes walking permission, permission to have your child’s photo taken and published in the newsletter or on social media. If you need assistance with this, please contact your child’s teacher.
