Cooking Club
Our Cooking Club students have been busy creating delicious cookies, slices and savoury pastry puffs this year. We are excited to begin sharing some of our favourite recipes with our school community, starting with this week's easy and delicious Weet-Bix Cookies!
Thanks to the generous support of Foodbank Victoria, we are able to provide ingredients that make this program possible.
Cooking Club is about more than cooking. Students recently made Vegetable Puffs for families involved in The Common Thread parent program and baked ANZAC Cookies to share with visitors from Homestyle aged care Langford Grange in Cranbourne.
Along the way, students are developing valuable life skills by learning to measure ingredients accurately and follow recipes. This week, one pair of students even experimented by baking the cookie mixture in a slice tin instead. Their creative idea worked perfectly, showing growing confidence and a willingness to try something new.
We hope you enjoy making these Weet-Bix Cookies at home!
Easy Weet-Bix cookies
Student 1
Ingredients
- 150g butter, melted (Canola Spread is fine)
- 1/2 cup condensed milk
- 2 Tablespoons golden syrup
Step 1:
In a microwaveable bowl measure the butter using the scales, you need 150grams. We have canola spread not butter; this will work fine. Microwave on high for 30 seconds, stir, if not fully melted place back in the microwave in 10 second increments until fully melted.
Measure ½ cup of condensed milk and add to the melted butter. Add the 2 Tablespoons of golden Syrup, mix until it all comes together.
Student 2
Ingredients
- 10 Weet-Bix
- 1/3 cup rolled oats
Step 1:
Crush Weet-Bix in a bowl until they become fine crumbs. Add the rolled oats. Stir to combine.
Students 1 & 2 work together
Step 2:
- Tip the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients. Take turns to Mix the ingredients together. Do not over mix.
- Get a baking tray and cover it with baking paper.
- Use a tablespoon to scoop the biscuit dough and roll into golf ball sized balls. It helps to do this with wet hands. Place on tray and flatten slightly into a disc shape.
- Bake for 12 minutes in a 180C oven. Allow to cool slightly and let them firm up on tray before removing to a rack to cool completely.
