Literacy
During Literacy lesson the students with explore how Australia was settled by the British. They will summarise and compare and contrast how the colonies of New South Wales, Tasmania and Western Australia were settled. Tom Appleby by Jackie French is our class novel and this also explores the life of a convict sentenced to deportation to Botany Bay for stealing. Students will develop their writing skills by writing a series of diary entries from the perspective of a convict.
Maths
In the coming weeks our focus will be rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 000 and 100,000. Students will determine the effects rounding up or down will have on addition subtraction and division problems.
Wellbeing
During our Wellbeing lessons students will explore positive and negative use of power in relationships, what it means to be a bystander and help seeking. Traditional gender roles will be explored prompting discussions around how these have changed and the impact they have. They will develop strategies to succeed when learning is challenging and how to overcome speed humps.
Inquiry
Students will explore solids, liquids and gasses. They will appreciate the way that scientists and engineers have used their understanding of chemistry to develop solutions to solve problems.
