Upcoming Learning
Literacy
In phonics, we will continue Stage 7.5, focusing on the morphology of words. Students will learn to read and spell words with the suffix -ous, (pronounced /uh/s/ and meaning full of or lots of), and understand how this suffix changes the meaning of base words.
We will be finalising our Gentle Genius of Trees by Phillip Bunting unit with students publishing their informative paragraphs with accompanied diagrams. Once this is complete, we will start to explore persuasive texts through the story, Tiddler. Check it out below!
In Writing, students are learning to make their sentences flow and make sense by matching the action word (verb) to the subject and tense. They’ll also be practising how to join ideas together to make more detailed sentences and experimenting with words that show how certain or unsure they are about something.
Numeracy
In Number we will be continuing our Operations unit. Students will apply their knowledge of how to solve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division word problems using bar models and will be introduced to the CUBES strategy to break down worded problems by circling key numbers, underling the question, box key words, evaluate the steps needed and solving the question.
In our Shape unit, students will sort polygons based on their features as well as combine and split two-dimensional shapes. They will learn how to create and manipulate polygons and investigate the impact of rotating shapes to create patterns.
Inquiry - Through Generations
This term, students are exploring how people, places, and stories are connected across time in our Inquiry unit Through Generations. They will interview someone from an older generation to learn about the past and practise using language to describe events in the past, present, and future. Students will also explore different points of view, the importance of special places in communities and cultures, and how stories from the past can be told in different ways.
Check out the poster below that focuses on one of our habits of mind, managing impulsivity. Students really engaged with this and had some great discussions around how to manage impulses and the outcomes based on how we respond to situations.
Wellbeing
In Wellbeing, students will explore the topic of Gender Norms and Stereotypes. Students will participate in the following lessons:
- Identity – comparing personal preferences
 - Labels are for jars, not for people
 - What is fair play?
 - Ways to be gender fair

If you'd like to know more about the lesson and what is involved, you can find it in the link below by scrolling to page 3 of the Contents and then selecting Topic 7.
Art Show Success
We’re so proud of our Grade 2 students and the incredible artworks they showcased at the Art Show! Their creativity shone through, especially in the last-minute butterflies they whipped up to brighten a dull roof space. A huge thank you to our wonderful families for donating, helping at the lucky dip, and supporting our fundraising efforts. We also appreciate everyone’s flexibility with the date change - it helped us dodge the bad weather and enjoy a fantastic night together! Check out some of their wonderful work up close below!
Grandparents Morning
We loved having our grandparents join us for a fun morning filled with smiles, stories, and laughter! It was so special to see students proudly sharing their classroom and memories with their grandparents. Thank you for taking the time to come in and be part of such a wonderful morning. It truly meant a lot to the children (and us!).
