That’s a wrap on term 4!
It’s been a busy end to yet another amazing, fulfilling year at KCHS. And it has flown by so fast! Life at KCHS can move pretty quickly, and in the weeks of winddown and with the holidays on our doorstep, this is a great time to pause and reflect on the wonderful accomplishments of the junior cohort and staff.
Mid-way through the term, we came together and got scary for the spooky shenanigans of All Hallow’s Eve, a festive celebration with dress up and whole-school trivia. There were endless extra-curricular events aligned with our Health and PE classes, including laser tag, bike riding, and swimming – a massive thanks to Mark, Julie, and their team for organising these activities.
Speaking of activities, we spent week 10 at the Archie Brothers Arcade, Hoyts Cinemas and Funfields Water Park. A big thank you to the staff who went along to ensure our young people got the best out of each experience. Within that week, we also underwent the State-wide Transition Day, where all year levels moved to their new classrooms for 2026. This day saw us welcome new members into the junior and senior schools, including an entire new cohort of year 7s who we are more than excited to work with!
In year 7, Mark, Deb and Julie ran the Indigenous Cultural unit, where the kids engaged in activities that promoted Indigenous awareness through museum visits, making indigenous food and arts, and learning about native flora. Within our Art Therapy program, students collaborated in designing a mural of the clock tower – we can’t wait to hang it! In year 8, Deb ran a wonderful High Tea with the year 8s Food Tech Class, hosted for their families/caregivers – I’m still thinking about the amazing food they all cooked!!! And finally, the Songmakers Gig at Espy a few weeks back was nothing short of astounding. To Simon, who organised, practiced, and coached our kids to perform, thank you, and well done!
These are just some examples of the awesome things our students underwent this year. We built capacity for leadership, collaborative learning, critical thinking and problem solving skills. But I want to personally thank the junior teaching, support and wellbeing staff who made this all immensely successful. I could wax lyrical for days about how valued and supported our young people feel about this great team of educators – a big thank you from me, and on behalf of the leadership team.
Lastly, I want to personally say thank you to Peter Davis, who is retiring this year. When I started at KCHS many moons ago, Pete took me under his wing, and gave me the advice and support I needed to grow into my role. He also did this for countless others, too. Pete was integral to the Junior School especially, being a safe person and trusted adult for many of our young people. Pete, you will be truly missed, but your legacy within KCHS at large will live on for many years to come.
