Senior Years Learning Community

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we enter the halfway mark of Term 4, students have been engaged in some fantastic experiences with camps/excursions last week and further learning across the following key areas:

English

We have started reading The Last Bear by Hannah Gold.  Students have thoroughly enjoyed the text and will use this as inspiration to write their own persuasive piece of writing later in the term.

Maths

Our recent focus has been on Data representation, looking at different types of graphs and surveys and how we interpret information.

Inquiry

This term’s topic is Business and Economics. We’re learning different aspect of Business and Economics including Entrepreneurship and looking at Shark Tank as inspiration for student thoughts.

Religion

In Religion, we’re exploring Living as Disciples and in particular the Beatitudes. Students are reflecting on their meaning and relevance today.

At home you could support student learning by:

  • Listening to your child read
  • Investigate our mentor text (The Last Bear by Hannah Gold)
  • Examine different types of Data Representation through types of charts. Students could create their own survey question at home and represent the results in a graph.
  • Ask your child questions about what they enjoyed the most on Grade 5 Excursion or Grade 6 camp last week.
  • Investigate Products/Business's that have been invented and whether they have been successful or not with your child
