Making friends

All students are encouraged and supported to get to know one another and to form friendships. Teachers will regularly model how to ask a friend to play and what making a friend looks like by deliberately rehearsing:

Simple Greetings

Rehearse saying "Hi, my name is ___" or "Do you want to play with me?"

Joining In

Practice asking to join a game: “Can I play too?” Approaching peers who are doing an activity they like during community time.

Taking Turns and Sharing

Reminding about sharing toys, art supplies, or taking turns in games.

Showing Kindness

Modelling developing firendships by complimenting a friend (“I like your drawing!”) or helping someone.

Using Imagination

Creating shared pretend play scenarios, like "let’s pretend we're animals" or "we’re in a spaceship."
