Primary School

Welcome Back!
Classroom News
We hope you enjoy reading about the upcoming inquiry focuses and learning for Term Four from our Early Childhood and Primary School classes.
Kindergarten
This term in Kindergarten, our inquiry is focused on the concept of helping. We began by brainstorming words like help, helper and helping, and shared our ideas about what they mean to us. The children have enjoyed listening to stories about different kinds of helpers and took part in a lively discussion about who helps them in their daily lives. Soon, we will be sorting our ideas into categories such as people who help us at home, at school and in the community. We are excited to see where the children’s curiosity and questions take us as we explore this meaningful topic together!
Pre-Primary
There is so much to celebrate as we enter our final term of Pre-Primary. Our first inquiry will explore why some events are special and how we know this. Later in the term, we will investigate what causes objects to move in different ways. We have also opened our ‘Rainbow Café’ in the classroom, which will help us explore how we use money to purchase goods and give us even more oral language and social skill practice.
Year One
The classroom has been transformed into a Post Office, where the children will weigh parcels of different shapes and sizes, write and post letters, take passport photos, complete passport applications and develop their money skills through identifying coins and using simple addition and subtraction. The Year One inquiry topic this term will integrate English, Science and HASS. The main inquiry question will be: How do we use light in celebrations? We will explore birthdays, Christmas, Diwali (The Festival of Lights), and any other festivals celebrated by our class families that include lights.
Year Two
We are looking forward to a fun and engaging unit of work for our final term in Year Two. Our inquiry focus asks: How do living things grow and change? This science-based unit will explore the growth and development of humans, plants and butterflies. To support this learning, we will have caterpillars in the classroom that will transform into butterflies, an incredible firsthand look at life cycles. We will also be growing our own versions of ‘bean greenhouses’ to observe plant growth and change.
Year Three
Have you ever thought about why we eat what we eat? That will be our inquiry focus for this term as we combine concepts covered throughout the year to help us make informed choices about the food we encounter. Are there foods we should be eating? Are there foods some people choose not to eat? Are there foods that go well together? Why are some foods only eaten at certain times? The culmination of our investigations will be the fabled Year Three Icy Treat Stall later in the term, something to look forward to!
Languages
We are starting the term by continuing our delicious journey through French cafés and pâtisseries! Students will keep learning the French words for tasty treats and drinks, with the goal of being able to order their own food in a café. Later in the term, we will move into a cultural study under the theme How we express ourselves. Together, we will explore how the Arts help us understand French language and culture.
- Upper Primary students will watch and discuss French movie trailers.
- Middle Primary students will learn and reflect on the lyrics of the song On écrit sur les murs by Kids United.
- Early Childhood students will enjoy the story of Little Red Riding Hood in French (Le Petit Chaperon Rouge), drawing parallels between the English and French versions to help them discover and use new French words.
It is going to be a creative and expressive term full of music, stories, and culture!
