Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to Term 4!
This term is full of exciting activities, excursions and incursions for our Secondary students. As we move into the final stretch of the school year, our focus remains on creating meaningful learning experiences that build independence, confidence and real-world skills.
During the first week of term, students had a lot of fun participating in the Colour Run, and it was a day filled with laughter and joy. The energy and excitement were contagious as students ran through the colourful course, celebrating with their friends and teachers.
We hit the ground running with Camp in Week 1. Our Future Ready students and Year 12s attended Blackwood Outdoor Camp, on the fringe of Lerderderg State Forest. This is always a highlight of the year, giving students opportunities to build friendships, develop social skills, and challenge themselves in new environments. Activities included a high ropes course, rock climbing, camp fire, cooking and archery. A huge thank you to Tony and the team at Blackwood Camp, and to our fantastic staff who attended.
We have a forthcoming Cyber Safety incursion for students to learn how to stay safe online, make responsible choices, and navigate digital spaces with confidence.
In addition, Sexual Health Victoriawill be visiting our school to support our students’ learning and enrich our curriculum. These sessions will link directly to the Personal and Social Capabilities curriculum, with a focus on respectful relationships, personal safety, and decision-making.
Please keep an eye out for information about Student Support Group (SSG) meetings, which will be held between Week 6 (17 November) and Week 8 (starting 5 December).
Enable work experience commences for students in Week 2 (13 October). Students who are attending have been forwarded consent forms.
A key date is Year 12 Graduation, which is on Friday 5 December at the Meadows Racetrack. This is a wonderful night celebrating our seventeen Year 12 students who are graduating JSA this year.
Throughout the term, students will continue to engage in hands-on learning experiences across a range of subjects. Our focus areas include building independence through functional life skills, strengthening communication, and connecting learning with real-life experiences through community access and practical activities.
We’re looking forward to a positive and engaging Term 4 with our students, which is the last of their schooling years for seventeen of them! Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
ROOM 24
Room 24 had an unforgettable camp in Week 1 of this term. Students’ favourite activity was archery, where many showed great focus and skill. We also conquered fears through rock climbing and the high ropes course, showing teamwork, courage and determination. The night walk to the Blackwood Cemetery was another highlight, sparking curiosity and laughter along the way. Although we couldn’t use the observatory due to the weather, we enjoyed a cosy campfire instead and cooked damper together—discovering that chocolate, marshmallow, and honey is definitely not a winning flavour combination!
This term is especially meaningful as it marks the final one for seven of our students, who will be graduating. We are incredibly proud of their growth and achievements and wish them every success in their next chapter.
