Last term, the Gaga Pit has quickly become a favourite place for our students to play and connect with each other. For those who are new to it, Gaga is a fast-paced, fun version of dodgeball played inside a low-sided pit. Players use their hands to hit a soft ball, aiming to get others out by striking them below the knees. The game is simple to learn, inclusive, and keeps everyone active and engaged.
Beyond the fun, Gaga is helping our students practise important life skills. They are learning resilience when they are out of the game and need to wait for the next round, fairness as they follow the rules, and respect for others by celebrating good play and encouraging their peers. These are wonderful examples of our St John’s Learning Powers in action—particularly resilience, collaboration, and responsibility.
It has been heartening to see the pit filled with laughter, teamwork, and lots of energy each break time.
The Gaga Pit is not just a game—it’s another way our children are learning to play fairly, support one another, and enjoy being part of our school community.
