Cybersecurity Awareness Month (October)
October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month — a great time to review how we keep our children safe online.
As a parent or carer at St John’s, you have free access to Qustodio, a parental control tool that helps you monitor and guide your child’s online activity.
Getting Started with Qustodio
- Click the link below to create your account.
- Use the email address the school has on record for you.
- Enter your name and create a password.
- Check your email for a verification code. Enter it on the verification screen and click Verify. (If you don’t receive it, check your spam folder.)
- Confirm your child’s school account information and click Connect.
- (Optional) Use the dropdown menu to select your child’s birth year for age-specific safety insights.
Accessing Qustodio
- On a computer: Visit family.qustodio.com
- On a smartphone: Download the Parents App from the App Store or Google Play, then log in to supervise on the go.
What You Can Monitor
When you log in, you’ll see the My Family screen — a list of all children connected to your account. Click on your child’s name to view their dashboard, which may show:
- Apps and websites they’ve used
- Time spent in different content categories
- Total screen time
- Online searches
- (If available) an activity timeline showing detailed, chronological activity
⚠️ Please note: There may be limits on the type of activity you can view.
Learn more about activity monitoring here.
Managing Screen Time and Content
Depending on your setup, you can:
- Apply web filters
- Set daily screen time limits
- Restrict specific apps
Read full details here.
Protecting Family Devices
- Log in and open the My Family screen.
- Click Protect a Device.
- Choose your child’s device type and follow the on-screen steps.
Once installed, go to the Rules screen to manage:
- Screen time limits
- Web filtering
- And more safety tools
Read more about installing Qustodio on each device type.
Do I Need to Install Qustodio on School Devices?
No — school-issued devices are already protected. Please do not install Qustodio on them.
Can Two Parents or Guardians Monitor a Child’s Device?
Yes — there are two ways to set this up:
A. One Account, Two Logins (Recommended)
- Choose a Primary Parent to create an account at qustodio.com/my-school using the school-registered email.
- Go to Account Settings → Additional Parent.
- Add the other parent’s email to send an invite.
- The invited parent creates their own login details.
Both parents can then monitor activity and set rules for school and personal devices.
B. Separate Accounts for Different Households
- Both parents visit qustodio.com/my-school and create individual accounts using their own school-registered emails.
- The first parent will see that “Apply rules” is toggled on (they control device settings).
- To hand over control, the first parent can toggle it off, allowing the other parent to toggle it on in their account.
Each parent can view the activity and rules set during their own management period, but not the other’s.
