Welcome to Term 4!
Initial Lit
We have officially finished learning all of our individual sounds and digraphs for the year in Kindergarten! Please continue to practise these at home to help increase fluency. We have now begun fluency testing to build speed and confidence in reading decodable words. There are four fluency levels, based on the order in which we learnt our sounds. To be considered fluent at a level and ready to move to the next, students need to read all 30 words in less than two minutes. Feel free to practise these words at home if your child is motivated to improve their time!

We are now focusing on CVCC words (consonant–vowel–consonant–consonant) in our Initial Lit lessons. Here are some fun and engaging ways you can practise reading CVCC words at home!
Sound Hop
Write CVCC words in chalk outside or on paper inside (e.g. hand, jump, milk). As your child reads each word, they jump, hop or clap for each sound.
Word Detective
Hide CVCC word cards around the house. When your child finds one, they read it aloud before hiding it somewhere new for you to find!
Fridge Words
Use magnetic letters on the fridge or a baking tray. Say a word (like lamp) and have your child build it. Mix it up to make a new word.
Speed Read Challenge
Write 10 CVCC words on a sheet. Set a one-minute timer and see how many your child can read correctly. Try to beat their own score next time.
Silly Sentence Builder
Use CVCC words in funny sentences: “The frog jumped on the sand!” This helps with fluency and comprehension.
Read and Draw
Say a CVCC word and have your child draw it (e.g. hand, tent, milk). Then they write or say the word back to you.
Attached below are some examples of CVCC words if you need!

Writing
Kindergarten are loving learning about procedures! Last week, we learnt all about what a procedure is, the key elements included in this type of text, and even got to put our learning into action! On Friday, we made our very own fairy bread, carefully following our procedure to make sure we didn’t miss any steps!

This week, we are learning how to make a potato person! Our Kindergarten students have been hard at work, designing and creating their own unique masterpieces while closely following their procedure step by step.

Maths
We continue to learn all about forming groups by sharing and counting collections of objects. Here are some activities you can do at home to support your child's learning!
