Years 4 & 6

It has been an absolute pleasure to be back in the classroom with these students over the past two weeks. These students have such a fantastic work ethic and natural curiosity for learning.
Literacy
The novel we are studying this term is called "The Grandest Bookshop In The World" by Amelia Mellor. The students are totally engrossed in this book, and even better, it is based in Melbourne and by an Australian Author.
It would be fantastic if you could have a conversation with your child about this book. They all look forward to reading time and enjoy the opportunity to talk about the background behind the story - it is very interesting.
This book is filled with interesting vocabulary. Some of the words we have learnt about so far include; conviction, articulate, sagacious, and plausible. I had never heard the word sagacious before, so I enjoyed the opportunity to be a learner myself!
Numeracy
Our fortnightly learning has focused upon angles. Year 4 have been learning how to measure angles using a protractor, and to classify angles based on their characteristics.
Year 6 have taken it up a notch, learning how to calculate unknown angles based on angle characteristics. For example, knowing that adjacent angles on a straight line add to 180 degrees, and angles around a point add to 360 degrees. They have also been learning about the relationship between vertically opposite angles.
