JLC Newsletter- Year 1- Week 4, Term 4

In Mathematics, students have been exploring the concept of Time. They have been learning to name the days of the week and months of the year, as well as identify how many days are in each month and in a year. Students have also been learning about the features of an analog clock, including the minute and hour hands. They have been practising drawing clock hands and telling the time to the hour.

We encourage parents and guardians to support this learning at home by discussing the days, months, and times together in everyday routines.

In Literacy, students have been learning new letter sounds, focusing on _dgeand _ge, which make the /j/ sound. They have also been practising reading and writing their new tricky words: another, other, and water. We kindly ask parents and guardians to continue recording in their child’s reading log each night, as this helps teachers track the books being read and support students’ progress.

We have also been focusing on the storybooks Dingo and Wanted: Ralfy Rabbit, Book Burglar. Through these texts, students have explored key vocabulary such as active, determined, protect, discover, intrepid and, culprit. To extend their learning, students engaged in a creative structural art activity, designing and constructing dioramas that represented a dingo’s habitat.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for Grandparents Day. It was a wonderful celebration, and we loved welcoming you into our classrooms. The students truly enjoyed sharing their learning and special moments with you.

Grandparents Day:

Our Year 2 children celebrated a beautiful prayer at assembly on Friday to celebrate our Grandparents. Thank you to everyone who joined us for Grandparents Day. It was a wonderful celebration, and we loved welcoming you into our classrooms.

Ditto Show:

JLC had a very informative and engaging session at Ditto this week. They focused on the 3 safety rules

1. We all have the right to feel safe around people,

2. It’s OK to say no, if you feel unsafe or unsure and

3. Nothing is too yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.

Students had a great time and particularly loved singing along to all the songs.

Inquiry-Science:

This week we have moved on from learning about Biological Science and have started learning about Physical Science. Students have been experimenting with forces and how different object can be made to move by applying either a ‘push’ or ‘pull’ force. They enjoyed making mini versions of a ‘mini-golf course’ (see pictures below).

Literacy:

Laughter, screams and Grandma’s voice can be heard coming from the Year 2 space as the students enjoy listening to the Roald Dahl’s novel “George’s Marvellous Medicine.” The children are listening carefully and comprehending this novel.
