All Saints and All Souls Day

This weekend we have two significant days on our liturgical calendar, All Saints Day and All Souls’ Day.

The Feast of All Saints is the day on which we celebrate the lives of those who have given their lives to Christ, who have lived their lives for Our Lord, known and unknown. Those known, have been canonised by the Church. We pray for them all, known and unknown.

On All Saints Day, 1st November, we pray the Beatitudes. The Beatitudes are the teachings of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-10). Jesus teaches us that if we live according to the Beatitudes, then we will live a blessed and happy Christian life.

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed are they who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the land.

Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be satisfied.

Blessed are the merciful,

for they will be shown mercy.

Blessed are the clean in heart,

for they will see God.

Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they will be called children of God.

Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

All Souls’ Day guides us in remembering our deceased loved ones, as well as praying for a peaceful journey from Purgatory to Heaven.

“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

Mercy Awards

Our current award focus is ‘Integrity’.

The Sisters of Mercy demonstrated integrity through their commitment to compassionate service, particularly towards the poor, sick, and uneducated, and their dedication to living out their vows of poverty and obedience. Catherine McAuley, the founder, exemplified this by dedicating her life and fortune to serving those in need and respecting their dignity.

Some ways we can show integrity here at St Joseph's are:

  • being honest
  • listening to your inner voice about what is right
  • behave in ways that earn the trust of people around you
  • stand up for yourself and others
  • making your best choices

You are invited to attend the 40th Anniversary of St Joseph’s new church

Mission Day Stalls

Today we held our Mission Day Stalls to raise money for Catholic Mission Australia. Mission Month is a special time in the Catholic calendar dedicated to learning about and supporting global missionary work. This year’s theme, “Missionaries of Hope Among All Peoples,” encourages us to reflect on hope and unity across communities.

This morning our school community was brought together to take part in stalls and activities to help raise an impressive $631.90! Our stalls and activities consisted of selling Lolly Bags and Cupcakes, playing Chocolate Toss, trying their luck in the Lucky Dip and Guess the Teacher Baby Photo!

Thank you to all families for generously providing bags of lollies, cupcakes and chocolates in preparation for today and for also giving money to their children to help contribute to this cause. All funds will be sent to Catholic Mission Australia. We will let you know how much we raised in the next newsletter.
