2024 Parents Club Update

We would like to welcome back our wonderful school community and warmly welcome all new families in 2024!

We have a few important updates so we appreciate you taking the time to read.

NLPS Parent's Club Model and Constitution

NLPS Parent's Club has recently adopted the required Department of Education (DET) Parents Club Constitution. Our Constitution has been signed off by the DET. The Constitution provides structure, process and governance to Parent's Club which:

  • Gives this parent group recognition by DET.
  • Gives parents the opportunity to register as a member and the right to vote in office bearers and on other matters as they arise.
  • Provides a vehicle for all the parents in the school community to participate. Schools in collaboration with the Parent Club promote meetings, elections and events to the whole school via the approved communication methods.
  • Gives the group independence, as Constituted Parent Clubs are not sub committees of school councils. Under a democratic structure it allows the parent community to share knowledge and expertise and make recommendations to support the school.
  • Funds raised by a formally constituted Parent Club are required to be held transparently within the school’s accounting system which is important for good financial governance (this has already been occurring).

Register to be a Parent's Club member

Under the Constitution, parents/caregivers who want to join our Parent's Club must register to be a member.  Registered members have the right to vote in office bearers and on other matters as needed. It is a great way to HAVE YOUR SAY on important issues, events etc you'd like to see at our school.

Registration can simply be done by:

  • Scanning QR code below - completing form, printing and providing hardcopy to front office
  • Picking up a hardcopy form from front office to complete
  • Registering on the spot at the start of the AGM

It is a Department of Education requirement that registrations are collected via hardcopy form (we would make it digital if we could!)

WE NEED YOU - Nominate to be NLPS Parent's Club President, Secretary or Treasurer

At the upcoming AGM, all office bearer positions (President, Secretary and Treasurer) will be declared vacant.

For our Parent's Club to run in 2024 we must fill these positions!

We are looking to elect all new office bearers for this year.  There will be full handover and support provided by 2023 committee members to ensure a smooth transition and to set the new committee up for success!

We strongly urge you to consider nominating for an office bearer role if you are passionate about the school community and want to see our Parent's Club continue.

Parent's Club contributes significantly to our school community by running programs, events and fundraising for the school including and not limited to:

  • Icy Pole Days
  • Fruit Break Program (Foundation - Year 2)
  • Second Hand Uniform Stalls
  • Cake Stalls
  • SCHOOL FETE (scheduled for 2025)
  • Family events (picnics, BBQs etc)
  • Lost Property organisation
  • Uniform Recycling
  • Friendship Lists
  • Supporting school initiatives/activities through our fundraising

Office Bearers are not required to run or be involved in every event. They are responsible for overseeing the programs and running the monthly Parent Club meetings.

Nominations to be emailed in writing by 5pm Monday 26th February.

Please email nlpsparentsclub@gmail.com for position descriptions or to nominate.

Annual General Meeting

Tuesday 27th February at 7.30pm in the Multi Purpose Room

You're invited to attend the Parent's Club Annual AGM where we will:

  • Present a summary of the year that was in 2023, including financial statement
  • Vote in President, Secretary and Treasurer
  • Look ahead to 2024: How you can get involved, event/fundraising ideas etc.

You must be registered to vote on the night. You can register in person on the spot at the AGM.

Friendship Lists

Friendship lists are a great way to get in touch with other families in your child's class to arrange catch ups, birthday invites etc. The lists will be distributed early March.

Icy Pole Day starts this week - Friday 16th February!

For our new families, icy pole day occurs every fortnight on a Friday in Terms 1 and 4.

Zoopa Doopa (or similar) icy poles are sold to students for 50c at lunchtime and it is a highlight of the summer calendar! Cash only. It is also a great little fundraiser for our school.

New Logo!

You might have noticed we've refreshed our Parent's Club logo! A big thank you to the wonderfully creative Jackie Donnelly for designing this, and other branding for us to use across different communication channels.

That's it from us for now! It has been a busy start to the year and we hope to see many of you involved with Parent's Club this year whether it is a small or big contribution, it all helps. Many hands make light work.
