Student Voice & Leadership

Student Voice & Leadership at FPS

2024 marks a new era for student voice and leadership at FPS. We’ve hit the ground running with the Year 6 community and specialist captains attending the GRIP Leadership Conference at the Melbourne Convention Centre last week. The inspiring day has been recapped by George and Cass below.

We’ve also held our first Student Voice meetings. Eager representatives across the year levels met with Prue and the Year 6 community leaders Penny, George and Mon last week to learn about what skills make a great leader.

Being a part of Student Voice can teach young people to be confident in public speaking, presenting and communicating with others, building on those skills learnt in the classroom. Student Voice aims to give students the skills to create and to implement, to lead and to follow, to learn from mistakes and to succeed. Most importantly, they give students the opportunity to represent the views of their peers, and to succeed in making those views heard.

Here are our Student Voice representatives for term one.

GRIP Leadership Conference Recap

This year’s grip leadership conference was all about what it takes to become a young leader. We took a train to the city, and walked to the conference. When we got there we got front row seats and sat, ready for the show to begin.

The introduction was about all the tasks that it took to become a great leader, we had to start with an elimination maths game, that required honesty and quick thinking, it was all about participation in a game that most wouldn’t enjoy a quick-fire maths game, but everyone participated and that was one of the qualities that we learned during the conference.

Throughout the conference we learned about all sorts of skills and qualities that a leader might need. We learned that a leader needs to make sacrifices and about the steps that leaders need to take towards success. We also learned about how leaders need to make commitments to things and stick to those commitments throughout the terms. We had a little booklet where we did all sorts of activities and fun games and activities right up until the last minute, it was extremely fun and I am glad that other year levels will get to do this as well. I would most definitely do it again.

It was crazy fun!!
