Fair Go Sport!

 Sporting Program Coordinator Report

On the first Friday of March, we celebrated health, fitness, team work and diversity!

We celebrate Fair Go Sport! because statistics show that 2 in 3 LGBTQIA+ Youth in Australia experience harassment due to their identity. As a result, LGBTQIA+ young people experience disproportionate rates of mental illness, report a lack of involvement in sport and fear discrimination when accessing mainstream services. To support our students we had four local community youth groups in attendance with a range of activities and information for our LGBTIQA+ students. Thank you to Darebin Youth Services - The Hub, Northland, Merri Health, Banyule Youth and Your Community Health. We aim to reinforce our value of Diversity and that these students are celebrated and an integeral part of our school community.

This year saw our regular scheduled program of outstanding track and field events. I would like to begin by thanking some staff - Mr Todorovski for taking the time to show me the ropes and helping me to organise the big day, and Ms Barker and Ms Neophytou for their help in organising staff needs. Thanks to our starting marshals Mr Forbes, Mr Vass and Mr Gayfer, as well as our famous announcer Mr Lyras! A special mention goes to our staff relay team who took out the open event: Ms Hudson, Mr Rubira, Ms French and Mr Lewis. We have such an incredibly engaged staff who immerse themselves in whole school events and make them the successes they are. Thanks to Ms Watmough, Ms Volpe and Ms Purches for your support on the day and for supervising and loading buses.

School spirit was high with our house mascots, Merri Koala, Darebin Turtle and Plenty Eagle, who helped open our event. Thank you to those students, as well as Ms Sarroff, for your help in reinforcing the masks. This year we also had house cheerleaders for the first time. Thanks to them and Ms Hudson for coordinating such a great routine to kick off the event.

I'd also like to extend that thanks to all of our students who demonstrated our school values and participated in so many aspects of the day. It was fantastic to see you all enjoy your time together, celebrate your houses and push yourselves out of your comfort zone in so many different ways.

Well done to the following students: Jomore, Mohamad, Shen, Kyra, Oscar, Lucas, Lily, Abdelmumen, Mandira, Lily, Destenee Aiden, Tyson and Aditya for your efforts at the Darebin Division Swimming Carnival. All students worked to the best of their ability, showcasing their swimming skills on an incredibly hot day.

Congrats to our Intermediate Volleybal Girls - A Team who made it through to the next round, after a close clash with Northcote in the final.

Sincerely,
