Service Learning 2024

As we ‘strive for greatness’ at our school, we are committed to realizing student agency in helping our community. We are also excited to announce the launch of our Community Projects for Year 9, this year, a cornerstone of our commitment to service as action.

At our school, service is not just a task; it reflects our Orthodox Christian values and the 'zest for life' that defines our community - humility, aspiration, respect, and kindness. Service as action is a fundamental part of our school's ethos, embodying our dedication to making a positive impact in our community and beyond. Service is reflected in the MYP and part of the IB programme.

This year, our Year 6 and 7 cohort will complete 10 hours of service, and Year 8 and 9 will complete 15 hours of service, reflecting our dedication to service as action.

Each student will be responsible for completing a logbook with their service responsibilities, providing a tangible record of their contributions to our community. We believe that this hands-on approach will not only deepen students' understanding of the impact of their actions but also empower them to take ownership of their learning and growth.

There are more details to come over the next term regarding specific service opportunities and how students can get involved. We encourage all students and parents to embrace these opportunities as a chance to make a meaningful difference in the world around them.

Community Project

This year, our Community Projects for Year 9 will provide exciting opportunities for service learning across the school, allowing students to engage meaningfully with the world around them and develop essential skills for life. Through our Community Projects, students will have the chance to explore new interests, develop empathy and understanding, and cultivate a sense of responsibility towards others.

On the 8 March, a guest speaker will present his story to Year 9, sharing how he generated a not-for-profit charity to serve the needs of his community. This event will be a valuable opportunity for students to gain insight into the power of service and entrepreneurship.

On the 19 March at 3.40 pm, Year 9 parents and staff are invited to attend the Community Project Information night. This event will provide an overview of the Community Projects for Year 9 and how parents and staff can support students in their service-learning journey.

We look forward to a year of meaningful service and growth, as we work together to make a positive impact in our community and beyond. Thank you for your continued support.
