Through the Grace of God, we have once again begun a fruitful school year. With the blessing of His Eminence Archbishop Makarios, our school blessing was presided by His Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Sozopolis, who was assisted by clergy of our District and parents of our school Fr John Mawal and Fr Aleksandar Savic.

As we begin our journey towards Pascha, I will take the opportunity to share with you what this period before the Great Fast is.

The Triodion (in Greek, Τριώδιον) — the pre-Lenten preparation period, marking the starting point of our journey to Pascha (Easter). During these three weeks of the Triodion, the Church encourages us to prepare our hearts, minds, bodies — and yes, even our pantries — for the Great Fast, which begins on Clean Monday, the first day of Great Lent.

The Triodion always begins on the Sunday of the Publican & the Pharisee, serving as a reminder to us about the importance of humility and genuine repentance.

A liturgical book called “The Triodion” is used by our clergy and chanters in church services throughout the Triodion (pre-Lenten period), Great Lent, Holy Week, and up to Holy Saturday night. “The Triodion” book contains hymns, prayers, and readings specific to the various Church services during this entire period.

This pre-Lenten period owes its name to the book, “The Triodion.”

I warmly invite each of you and your families to be active members of not only our treasured school but importantly of our Parish.

May we have a blessed year and period of Lent.
